Cheap vRS calipers?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Took my vRS in today to see about the rear brake issue, looks like I'll need to buy a new rear driver side caliper. They have quoted me £148+Vat for the part. Just wondering if there is anywhere online that sells them that little bit cheaper?

Obviously I want the proper caliper, being green and all :)

Took it to R K Engineering in St Agnes, Cornwall. Seemed like a nice bunch of chaps, explained things well and didn't charge the earth for looking at it.

Think I found myself a new place to take the cars to!

Thanks

im sure i saw two rears for sale on ebay,. sorry just looked there for the mk2 vrs

buy normal ones and paint them green.

Hmm, I was tempted but to be honest I'd rather just the green ones in the first place. Both my cars are off the road at the minute and I just want at least 1 of them back on with minimum hassle!!!

:D

I'm not sure if I feel too confident buying 2nd hand calipers? :(

Hey buddy not heard from you for a while, hope you and swmbo are well.

So carn't they clean the caliper up or is there some other damage?

Hi mate :)

Yea, doing well thankyou. Both got new jobs so very busy lately!

Her 205 needs a new starter motor... and the vrs can't really be driven so a bit stressed on the car front. She starts her new job in 2 weeks which is a 35 mile round trip each day!

He said they tried freeing up the caliper up without much luck, he said they are still binding slightly. It def felt a fair bit warmer after the drive back.

Really don't want to be spending alot a month before Xmas, especially with having to spend on the 205 as well- but I guess this is just how things happen sometimes!

How's things with you mate? Your intercooler thread put bad ideas into my head!!!!

He he yeah i'm good ta,I think its got a lot of people thinking :orb_devil

Hope you get the brakes sorted soon :)

if its stuck in clamp the carrier in place on a bench and get a high pressure/low volume pump to blow the pistons out then clean and rebuild it. total cost will be about £40-50 max and shouldn't be too much hassle :)

I'm not all that confident with brakes / or doing that (can change an engine in the 205 though... :D).

The garage said they've tried freeing up as much as they can. I assume they would have tried something similar.

You cant do that on a rear caliper. The handbrake ratchet mech is inside the piston.

bum socks to it.
