I have been offered some 17" Wolfrace's with Low Profiles tyres for 50 quid from a mate.

My other mate is saying this is going to affect my speedo accuracy.

Is this true and will it be so significant that it will affect anything such as going through speed cameras?

Also will it affect acceleration?

Ash.

Yes it will effect the speedo as you have a larger rolling circumference. Less engine revs at higher speeds, with slightly reduced acceleration. You can use the tyre size calculator on The Car Bibles web site to check out the margin of error.

You will also need to check the inset/offset is the same, and of course let your insurance company know.

If you stick to the same profile of tyre the error is 4.3% so speedo at 70 your are doing 73

i was aware of this problem and after consulting the above website to double check, mine works out at 0.83% - for those struggling with the maths....basically at 70mph, im actually doing 70.58....thats fairly accurate and im happy with that !!!!!!!!

Technically true. But in real life, it will depend on what size of 17" tyre is fitted.

You may find acceleration is slightly affected too. This does also depend on the weight difference between your current wheels, and the Wolfraces.

Steve

The popular choice & the size I use is 205/40/17. The overall diameter between this & the 16 inch rims with tyres is very small.

i have found my speedo is more accurate with 215/40/17's on than it was with the 16's on

Forgot to say that every speedometer I've ever checked across the VAG/Skoda range, has always been 2 to 3% optimistic (70 was actually nearer to 67), so a 17 inch wheel with 40 or 45 profile will be very accurate.

Well i have the standard 14's on at the moment.

Like Wardy said all depends on the size of tyre your going to use.
