Where Do I Stand?? (Dealer Question)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, need some advice please. On Monday 17th November (Monday just gone) I sent my Skoda into a Skoda main dealer to investigate the engine management light came on. After plugging it into their machine they determined the fault was caused by the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Obviously they replaced this and the light went off.

Now, driving round tonight I parked up. Started the car again 5mins later and the engine management light stays on wall.gifwall.gif My warranty runs out tomorrow, so really need it checked tomorrow (Which I doubt will happen) by Skoda's. Im gonna check the sensor to see if it looks 50,000miles old or if it looks new (Probably won't be able to tell), but Ive got a feeling they have just reset the ECU and the problem was never cured wall.gif

My question is if Skoda do not have time to sort the car tomorrow will I have a come back with them as the light has come back on so quickly? Or can they still charge me (No doubt they will find a fault not connected to the one they found Monday wall.gif) Or as the fault was reported while still in warranty do the warranty company still have an honour to pay for the repair?

Im just hacked off atm and really don't wanna pay out for this to Skoda's as it cost me £110 on Monday!! (They were no help trying to sort out my warranty claim last time and charged me for anti-freeze top up without telling me till after they put it in the car). The warranty company were useless last time also, but if I can get it paid for I will!!

My other option is taking it to me mates garage and getting them to get the fault codes and then phone Skoda and the warranty company to see who's gonna pay!

Any advice please??

As long as you report it on time they have to sort it.

Coolant sensor is a weak point as well.

Sounds like the coolant bottle. Had a simular problem with my octi vRS, replaced the bottle and all sorted.

Just go back and tell them the didn't fix the problem like you asked, they should try to fix it again. If it often trial and error with these kind of things!

Richie, what problem could it be with the coolant bottle??

Allams, thanks for the advice :)

The dealer has very kindly taken the car back in (Collected it from me) bout an hour ago, so gotta wait and see what they come back with :) They know the warranty expires today, so will atleast find out what the problem is and agree payment with the warranty today :)

Dealer has just got back to me. Apparently the oxygen sensor now needs to be replaced, which is obviously throwing the fueling out and bringing up the management light.

I asked how come it didn't show up on Monday, to which he said it did and so did the coolant temp. They changed the coolant temp as it could of caused both faults, but obviously this one come back.

They don't have one in stock, so will drop the car back to me. He has called my warranty company who WILL cover it So she's going back in on Moday to have the sensor replaced. (Im going through warranty as he quoted £200 to replace it and I could buy one on trade for £50-£100 so might aswell do it free :)

It was a knackered sensor. Did take 3 trips before a new bottle was put on under warranty :(
