Transient Warning Lights

Featured Replies

1.4 16v 100 BHP Fabia saloon.

On the way home yesterday, had to come to a quick stop at a mini roundabout to avoid some halfwit who decided to pull-out at the last minute. Came to rest in short-order without stalling the engine.

Shortly afterwards, the Electronic power control and Engine management lights came on. Engine seemed to be OK.

EPC light extinguished shortly before I reached home, but EM light remained on.

EM light still on today and fuel consumption seems to have gone up !

However, on the way home this evening, went over a speed hump at low speed and the EM light went out !

Did a scan and it produced the results below. They don't seem to be any different from the last one I did - part from re-dir fail on instrument labels.

Had even more sudden stop this evening, as a fully qualified halfwit pulled out in front of me as I was executing a 270 on a mini roundabout. But there wasw no repetition of the signals.

Any ideas ? Are these false warnings ?

Nick

I would suspect the ECU relay or loose wiring to ECU or other sensor. Looks like the fault happens when under braking load (G force) or shock from bumps etc.

Although the warning lights haven't come back on, fuel consumption seems to have gone through the roof ! The fuel guage is showing that I've gone through about an eighth of a tank in two days - i.e. a gallon and a bit. But have only done 24 miles, since then.

Normally get 38- 40 round town.

However, the live digital MPG report in the instrument binacle is showing usual readings i.e. anything from 12 -16 MPG when accelerating uphill to 81 MPG when bumbling along in top on the flat and level.

Motor does not sound rough.

Could it be that the engine is still operating in "Limp mode" , but not showing the usual indications of this in the instrument binacle ?

Is it possible for the EMU to fail in part, so that ignition etc operates normally whilst fuel metering part is "Dead" and the components controlled by this part default to safety settings ?
