Standard airfilters

Featured Replies

I picked up a new air filter the other day, and I notice it has a "foam" layer stuck to the bottom of the paper element.

As the filter been redesigned? I recall this filter was quite expensive (£18, iirc). I have fitted it, but not driven anywhere yet, so I could take it back for a refund.

I would have though the foam layer would reduce air flow, but might help reduce the amount of sh!t that passes down the intake to the MAF.

Cheers,

Matt

ps. Did my gearbox oil last week - found it pretty easy to get the filling plug out :)

Never seen that before! Looks a bit odd, and yes, that's expensive for a standard air filter. Wouldn't think air flow would be particularly affected- it'll flow through the foam better than the paper, and will increase filtration by catching all the big stuff first.

does it not pull off, looks like packing foam to me lol

You keep all your old filters?!

Yes, by chance I had a stack of them in the garage :o Don't worry, I don't keep my old oil filters, as that would be a tad messy

I agree with AndyVR6 though, it should be fine to use. Maybe its designed for another country, one with a sandy climate possibly

Well I do live in Weymouth, so I might as well stick with it....

Thanks all.

It is right dont panic. Its there to keep all the elements in line and stop the filter curling up.

Gen filters btw have two lines of glue that run the length of the filter to do the same thing.
