Porsche Boxster

Featured Replies

Granted some maybe 1998 onwards but £5,000 to put a Porsche in your garage?!

Check the prices on Autotrader.I really cannot believe these cars are cheaper to buy than my MX5 and half the used price of a similar year Lotus Elise

The world of used cars has gone a bit barmy ....which could be good:D

The problem with the Porsche is the running costs. Easily double those of the MX5 :(

Still, bargains to be had for sure.

In my experience MX5's aren't that cheap to run. I would much rather be in the Porsche or a 3 litre BMW Z3. :D

Who said an MX5 is cheap to run?? :P

Problem would be about £1000 to insure as opposed to approx £300 and servicing and parts.Again a £1000 sevice as opposed to a couple of hundred quid

But yes,it might be worth it for extra oomph.Just so incredibly cheap for some quality engineering!

Cheap Boxters should be avoided really unless you can afford to run a new one.

They are so difficult to work on and everything costs a fortune.

We had one here for a couple of weeks that I sold on and it was pretty nice to drive with the 2.7 engine. But at one stage the battery was flat and you wouldn't believe how difficult it was to jump start the thing. The battery is located in the front compartment which can only the opened when the battery has charge, so you've got to put power to these certain fuses to pop the bonnet/boot at the front and then jump it, and then of course the alarm goes crazy and thinks it's being stolen so turns itself off.

If you buy one, whatever you do don't let it get flat!!

And EVEN a standard Mk1 Octavia VRS would be all over an early Boxster performance wise.

Yeah, right.

Until you get to the first corner, where you can watch the Porsche go down the next straight from the comfort of your hedge

Yeah right! Check the figures, you'd have to seriously abuse it to get a 7 second 0-60 for example. The early ones are not 'fast', just like a VRS in fact (oooh I love tweaking that particular nose). :P;)

Seriously though, my standard Cav Turbo used to put the early Boxsters firmly in their place, back whenever, so a VRS isn't going to be humiliated.

The later ones are faster.

Surprised at how gutless the early 2.5 Boxters are. No go at all unless you are prepared to redline it in every gear, trouble is lack of torque.Lovely noise though. It has to be a 3.2 upwards in my opinion and I doubt that you will get one of those in this bracket.

The 2.5/2.7 Boxster's are the ones to aviod the best one has got to be the 3.2

The Boxster is a very nicely balanced car and a very enjoyable and rewarding car to drive. The 2.7 I drove was suitably brisk, nice and torquey with smooth power delivery from low revs and a perfect driving position. The book figures of 6.2 seconds to 60 are easily hit ;)

Lots of kit too and fairly roomy as far as two seaters go as well.

Running costs aren't that bad and nor is the servicing if you shop around. There are plenty of good Porsche independents out there who will service it for a lot less than main agents. Main thing to look at is the service history and make sure it's fully stamped up by either main dealers, OPCs or reputable specialists.

Yep - one near me at work on a S/H dealers forecourt - P Reg £8k!
