Removing old brake dust.

Featured Replies

Evening all

I think the previous owner of my current car was scared of cleaning it... So I've been slowly working my way around it getting the paint up to scratch.

The wheels are basically in good condition, but they have ingrained brake dust on the leading edge of the spokes. I've tried my usual wheel cleaner which didn't touch it, nor did WD40. I've also tried a fine polish which had little effect.

I'm confident that I can get it off with a more aggressive polish and lots of elbow grease... But, is there an easier way?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have a new set of tyres waiting to go on, so want to sort the wheels at the same time.

Cheers

Phil.

2nded on the clay bar, and also Tardis is supposed to be good aswell as its basically an acid.

I found Wonder wheels great.

Have you tried something like AS Tardis?

Using Wonder Wheels and Tradis is fine as long as the lacquer isn't damaged.

Car Plan alloy wheel cleaner works for me. Brush on with the brush provided and aggitate with a stiff alloy wheel brush, jet wash off and it should all come off

Worked for me when I cleaned a Saab who's wheel had never been cleaned properly. Looked as good as new when I finisned :D
