5 speed to 6 speed

Featured Replies

Long shot I know, but will the 6 speed gearbox off a pd 140 engined Golf Plus go straight onto a 110TDi on my Octavia?

Assuming the bolts line up, etc you will need the clutch, flywheel, starter motor, driveshafts and probably half a dozen things I have omitted to mention. :o

In short then: No

Think you could use the same driveshafts but you will deffo need the stick and cables plus flywheel, clutch and hydraulic pipe coz they are different.

It's doable, just takes a lot of components. In addition to the above you need a different gearbox mounts and the top mount console, you need to bend clutch lines to fit the new position, and a lot of new bolts/nuts (stretch/locking ones are used in quite a few places).

I did 6-spd from PD130 to TDI110 5 years ago. It was a tough job, but to this day I am happy as the 6-speed has a lot better clutch design and the 6th gear saved a lot of fuel in the 4 years the car was used on the Autobahn cruises.

Edit: Driveshafts are different!
