Wet Boot!

Featured Replies

Is it just me or is there a bit of a design flaw with the boot?

Everytime the cars been standing in the rain for a bit, when I open the boot all the rain trickles into the channels at the side but half of the water splashes into the boot itself.

My mates MK1 does the same!

Getting a little annoying now!

I've never known a hatchback that didn't do this!! My old mondeo was much worse than the Octavia for it. The best you can do is open it more slowly and try to let most of the water run off before you raise it too high.

Or just don't take it out in the rain

This is true, best bit of advice on offer.

The Mk2 is much better than the Mk1 (used to flood into the boot area on my old vrs). As above lift the boot slowly and should be OK. Maybe I am getting used to it but I hardly get any water (if any) into the boot now.

Probably less of a restriction for me (in drought prone Canberra), than you lot in wet old blighty ;)

Not a problem with the estate (:P Smug Mode ON)

Perhaps some packets of silica gel in the boot would help.:D

Sorry- couldnt help it.

But sadly there is not easy answer to this problem that Im aware of.

The worst car I have experienced this on was a Ford Puma.

When it came out there was alot of noise in the motoring press about how good a drive it was for the money, especially as it was just a Fiesta in drag etc etc.

So I went for a test drive, it was a miserable October and on walking around the car to inspect it before going for a drive, kicking tyres etc etc trying to look like a serious buyer, rather than the test pilot I was.

On opening the low and oddly curved boot lid/hatch and eccentric hinge mechanism resulted in the lying water that had collected on the tailgate depositing about 2 litres of water into the boot!

Oh well, as fun as it was to drive at least I had the reason to give the salesmen why I wouldn't buying today, thank you.

[further exciting extracts from my automotive autobigraphy to follow ...:P]
