Tire advice requested please!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm looking at which tires to put on the front of my Mondeo for the winter. The tread is low and feeling a bit shaky when pulling away from junctions in the wet. Since my main dealer is offering to beat any local tire quote at the mo, it seems worth having a look at what is out there.

The kwik fit website is good in that it shows discounted prices across a range of brands but I haven't a clue about which tires are 'good' to be honest.

Could somebody give me a recommendation for a good quality branded tire that will give me good performance on the front throughout the wetter and colder months?

Tire size is 205 55 V 16 if you're interested.

Many thanks,

Joe

I would give Uniroyal Rainsport 2's a go. They are awesome on our MX5 when the roads get greasy and are reasonably priced.

There are various threads on here regarding tyre preferences, I run Goodyears, which I am happy with. Whatever you buy avoid Kwik fit as they will be expensive. You will find better deals at smaller local fitters, just phone around for a good price.

My Mondeo was on 17" wheels, but I ran Conti SportContact (1 & 2), Michelin Pilot Primacy, Michelin Pilot Sport and Falken-FK452. The Falkens were the best of the bunch imho and about 1/2-2/3 the price of the premium brands as well as being grippy and long-lasting.

I currently have the F1 GSD3's on the Panda and I've been very impressed with them (17k miles and still hardly worn) but since the weather's got colder they seem more skittish on the road.

Others worth a look are Kumho-KU31 and Toyo T1R's.

Vredestein Sportrac, but you'll have to go to an independant for them I think. Mid range price for top end tyre.

Lots to choose from depending how much you want to pay, at the cheaper end Falken 912 and 452 are rated highly if you want to spend a bit more then Toyo T1R, Goodyear GSD and Uniroyale Rainsport. However one other to consider is Dunlop Sport Fast Responce. It is getting very good reviews at tyretest.com

Plenty of options here for me try and ring round with. Many thanks so far.

I love my Vredestein SporTrac 3's on both my Toledo and Lizs vRS. Great tyres in the wet and seeminlgy not fluttered by less than 5c weather on either.
