So far, so good

Featured Replies

I have had my Roomster a couple of months and so far it has been very very good. Done a couple of thousand miles and thought I'd post some comments.

The fuel consumption seems to be improving slowly, apart from the recent cold snap, which is expected, and the 1.4TDi engine seems a bit livelier at lower revs which is good.

Very pleased with the cruise control; it makes motorway driving so much more enjoyable, and less stressful specially where they have the average speed cameras.

It has had to go to Farmers Skoda for an unscheduled repair - a brake light switch was causing the brake pedal to stick. Farmers said there was a recall for this issue, and the problem was fixed efficiently under warranty.

I have had one mishap with the Roomster; when I was parking in London I managed to hit a small bollard. I was reversing slowly and there was no indicator from the parking sensors whatsoever that there was something nearby until there was a little bang, and at that moment the parking sensor alert beeped constantly :-( I doubted myself initially but I had a passenger who confirmed the sensors did not detect anything until the impact. The ironic thing was that the bollard actually hit and pushed in slightly one of the sensors.

Thankfully there wasn't much damage; I've not tried to push the sensor back out, but it still works fine, for larger objects anyway :-) I don't trust it so much anymore!

I posted previously that I had problems getting my Belkin iPod kit to work well with the Dance stereo, and despite going through the settings I could never get it to work satisfactorily. For a period of time I just used the mp3 functionality of the Dance stereo which worked well.

However, in the end I bought a Kensington Liquid Aux which sounds great and works perfectly and has the added benefit of a remote control which you velcro onto the steering wheel for track selection, etc. It also supports the iPhone fully, and comes in dark grey which is better as it blends in with the car's interior rather than the white of the Belkin connector.

Only other bits I have put on are a Parrot bluetooth kit, which works great.

One thing I find annoying is that the wing mirrors in wet weather have particularly poor visibility and I am frequently having to switch on the heaters; I wonder if others have tried RainX or similar treatments to improve this. Not tried anything yet.

Only other minor niggle is a rattle that seems to come from the upper glovebox lid; it doesn't do it all the time, though.

Nice write-up...

Glad you're pleased with it whats the fuel consumption like?

Nice review.

Did you use the Parrot adaptor cable ? If so what did you do with the red 'split' cable. I assume the long end has to go to a switched live feed from the fusebox as there is none on the Dance, is the short female bit unused?

Re fuel consumption, the current reading is 49.1, though I did reset that about a month ago. While this is not spectacular and a bit worse than my previous TDi, it isn't too bad and hopefully will improve once the mileage goes up a bit and the weather gets warmer! Initially I was only getting over 46!

The firm (work) had the Parrot kit fitted so I'm not really familiar with the setup; I will ask the guy who did the fitting; IIRC he mentioned that VW group cars need a particular 'soc kit' or something like that.
