Mk1 Fabia Speakers...

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Im after some better quality front speakers for my mk1 vRS.

Does anyone know the size that I need?

Or recommend some.

Im after a little more base and better quality all round (quiet and loud).

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

I swapped mine for a set of Blaupunkt Velocity. Not a lot of difference to be honest. More is gained by changing the headunit.

Have a search, this has been covered quite a lot.;)

Me too, but i changed the HU first, massive difference! Have you changed your head unit?

See this thread on my Member's Cars thread for speaker info.

Steve

so are they 6.5" then ?

13cm is about as big as you can fit in the same area. 6.5" may go in with some work though. I had some 13cm infinity kappa comps fitted ages ago and they're still doing well, even though head unit powered, not separately amped

? other threads ive found suggest 6.5" and they certainly look a bigger speaker than a 13cm, are these people making adapters and cutting things up ?

The bloke who did mine made 2 mdf rings and bolted it through the holes left when the rivets were drilled out from the oem setup. :)

Check the spec for the Alpines I bought. IIRC they're 6.5", or 16cm...

But it's the depth of the replacements, as much as the overall size that's important.

Steve

Wardy ive just read your whole thread and im still not certain mate on what id need, apologies if ive missed it

what kind of depth do i have to play with then ?......is 2.5" depth possible as ive spotted some CDT coax as an easy upgrade

***edit***

just found these

Car Audio Direct - VW/Seat/Skoda speaker adaptors - Fitting Adaptor

so 17cm/6.5" speakers will fit it seems, just the depth i need now

As objectively as possibly....

I've got these JL Audio VR 650 CSi

JL Audio: Products

Fitted using these Golf Mk4 speaker adapters.

The magnet for the woofer more or less attaches itself to the glass guide behind it. So really, the maximum depth you're looking at is 60-62mm. With this size of speaker and these spacers, I've had to re-position a foam vibration pad (tiny sponge thing) as it was deforming the roll surround of the woofer slightly. Without a build or mod to the door card, this is about the limit.

The Polo/Ibiza/Fabia seem renowned for good mid-bass from what I've read on Talk-audio. A good position for an amp is the underside of the passenger seat. As that's where the factory CD-change sits.

With a decent amp (2x75 minimum) the sound is pretty damned good. :)

I've considered an active sub but

i) I'm not sacrificing any bootspace to it.

ii) it's going to be "interesting" to fit.

iii) the frequencies involved are likely to run into the mid-bass of the door speakers. Unless I buy a crossover...

iv) There's a diminishing return vs can I be asked question. :D

thanks mate, so its defo 6.5" for the speakers and i need to be careful of mounting anything thats 60mm deep or more

Yep, that's it in a nutshell. Think my Alpines are 62mm deep but couldn't be 100% sure. Certainly around that area.

Steve

the standard system doesnt have tweeters does it ?.......just a coax speaker ?

  • 2 weeks later...

anyone ?.......fronts are just coax yes ?

There is a tweeter unit, by where the adjustment for the door mirrors would be...

My Alpines included replacements for those as well.

Steve

i see one in the rear, but not the front ?

Front tweeters are at the top front corner of the doors, behind where the mirrors bolt on.

lol, ill have a look tomorrow, ive not had it very long thats my excuse hehe

focal do a very nice set of shallow 165s if you want to splash the money :orb_not_w

the tweeter will be abit more involved tho as they are prob up around 32mm

not immpossible tho, with some buytl and a soldering iron to roll the tweeter holder down to the rite size,

if the tweeter is the same as the octy that is

the speakers in the fabia are on the todo list at the mo - so i havent pulled the door apart yet

also if you peek at these

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/9117.html

shallow moutns with abit more power and less wonga than the focal

let me know how it all goes if you could mate :orb_danci
