I'm amazed at the quotes I've been getting for a Superb.

Featured Replies

I've been looking at getting a Superb in the next month or two.

So I've been doing the usual quotes first.

I fancy something like a 2004 Elegance TDi 1.9

The comparison sites all seem to come out at arround £350 for either Swinton or 1stQuote, or if I do a quote on LV, no mods, it is a bit higher but they are mod friendly for later.

2004 Superb TDi Elegance manual 1.9

7 years no claims, clean license.

approx 14k a year

business class 1

legal cover

Guaranteed courtesy

protected no claims

£400 voluntary theft excess.

£250 voluntary accident excess.

£456.79 FC

If I choose modded and pick

engine management chip changed

steering/suspension mods (Awesome GTi do some reasonable cheap

coilovers for VAGs to do a nice job of keeping the comfort but losing

the pitch and roll)

£655 FC

It isn't like i'm a 17year old school kid either, I'm 40 this year. LV have almost always been the cheapest for me in the past but I'm beginning to think this time round they taking the mickey.

I'm currently with esure for the old Saab at the moment but on the comparison sites, for a Superb, they were middle of the £500s.

I guess what I'm going to save on fuel and tax I'm going to pay on insurance.

Hi, Try getting a quote from the insurance companies attatched with this forum & state that your a Briskoda member. They do exeptionally good discounted quotes & they also don't treat you as a boy racer when you mention mods:thumbup:

I'll give that a go.

I don't fancy Flux though because people's experience varies so much but seems to be biased toward the negative. Either in lack of service, poor experience when claiming or really silly quotes.

I'm with Adrian Flux at the moment. Touch wood I've never had to make a claim, but when I first took the policy out, they were the cheapest, but when It came to renewal, they gave me a silly quote, but matched the cheaper quote I got from Chris Knotts.

try some of the places that don't take part in the comparison sites.

I used Cooperative for my Fabia vRS insurance and they were cheaper than almost all of the comparison results.

What are Cooperative like with mods later down the line.

I can't answer that but, having been with LV for the past 6 years with my remapped Octavia, I do know that they ceased to be performance mod friendly a number of years ago.

Elephant this year for me - Privilege prior to that. The policy's underwritten by a company called Highway or Fairway or something, which one of either AF or CK said wouldn't quote for my car at all, and the other said wouldn't quote for business use. Even though they're site partners and supposedly provide 'Briskoda' policies, I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions... :thumbdwn:

Odd that isn't it.

I was with LV for many years, on various cars (mainly old Skodas and Saabs), then one day wanted to declare a mod on my Celica at the time and they gave it the old "Computer says no" routine.

Eventually they agreed to make a note of it for the event of claim, but not to increase the cover value to cover it's replacement. So I got out at renewal time.

But using their online quoter, while mods seem to push it up quite a bit, it looks like they are happy to cover mods again.

Performance Sports Car Insurance UK

these are the people i use very good prices and insure all mods like for like really nice and friendly small company so you are not just a number wich i like.....

give them a call you wont go wrong>>>>

I was one of the fortunate ones to be allowed to remain insured with LV at no extra premium after their major U-turn on mods. Interesting that they are back in the mod market again.

Highway appear to be owned by LV, so I guess you have to look at the polices on offer.

I went with Elephant again this year. Skoda Octavia VRS 2004 (no mods) £292 fully comp.

They sent me a renewal through and it was £354 so I did a bit of research (never use Comparison sites, they aren't that good) and I found I could get it cheaper elsehwere (Directline for example). I then went to the Elephant Website and got the exact same quote for £327, so I rang them up and after 15 minutes on the phone, I got it at

£292 fully comp with no changes to the Policy. I'm 31 with 14 years NCB and they are protected.

Use Google to search for insurance companies and then go to them directly

Things may have taken a twist and it might be a 3 horse race.

As well as the Superb, I've noticed that similar priced X-Type diesels aren't much dearer, and at a little more I could get slightly newer much less miles Avensis D4D. Not exciting, but reliable.

So now I need to test them all.

LV are NOT, i repeat NOT, mod friendly insurers

i used to have a Mk1 Clio, which i fitted with a heavily modified Renault 5 GT Turbo engine, i asked them many times before carrying out the conversion on the level of cover id receive should the worst happen, i sent them receipts for all the work and the parts, sadly the worst did happen and the car was a write off, they offered me something like £800, when i had one receipt alone for silicone hoses which was about £500, i argued with them for 9 months, even ended up dealing with them through the MD, the stress i went through i cant convey in words, but it was hell to put it lightly, in the end i think i settled with £2100, i wanted more but didnt have any fight left in me

i wouldnt touch them with a barge pole with anything modified

swinton specialist ftw,31 years old,15 pints to declare,LOTS of mods 695 quid, and they are very easy to deal with:D

  • 2 weeks later...
