a5 - what year

Featured Replies

hello

im thinking of buying an octavia i have seen on autotrader. Its an 05 and it looks to be the new shape mark II octavia. I have read that the mark II octavia is also known as A5 - but if you go to the accessories section of the skoda website:

?koda Accessories Brochure Downloads

you will see it says

Octavia (A4) 1997-2006

Octavia (A5) 2006>

if the A5 wasnt introduced until 2006 - how could an 2005 car be a mark II ??

thanks for any help

A5 was introduced in 2004, and here in Bulgaria in 2005.

A4 is in production yet, traded as Octavia Tour.

Are you sure it is not imported one?

Check VIN code (A4 -> 1U, A5 -> 1Z).

Look at the engine bonnet (A4 -> rectangle form, A5 -> trapezoid form).

Look at the external mirrors (A4 -> do not have embedded indicators, A5 -> do have embedded indicators).

Skoda's website is wrong - the first Mk2 octavias were from late 2004 (54 plate I believe) and the Mk1 was still for sale long after 2006.

ive seen plenty of 05 and 54 mkii octys around so probably nothing to worry about.

AFAIK the "A5" designation relates to it being the same underpinnings etc as the Mk V Golf.

A few early mk2 had an 04 plate.

Mine's definitely an Octavia Mk II A5 - Sept 2004:thumbup:
