What have I done now

Featured Replies

When cleaning my little Favvy I thought I'd also flush the coolant out and add my pink stuff in.

Emptied both hoses, reconnected topped up added my pink antifreeze and then started.

Now the heater isnt coming warm.

The car hasn't overheated or anything and the rads getting warm.

Or does the car need a good run first to get the water circulating?

bugger me you aint havin much luck! give it good run around:D should wrk then:D i had drive round to get hot air in my skoda unless i left it running

Is the top hose on the heater matrix higher than the pressure cap on the filler? If so, then you need to bleed the heater, or make a header tank and top up with the engine cold but running and the heater full on.

Make sure heater setting is on full and run engine with the coolant cap off with a cloth draped over to catch splashes. Having the front end of the car higher than the back might help. Leave the car running and when the fan cuts in try massaging the hoses to help force any air locks out. I also found that revving the engine a bit at this point seems to help the heater get warm. You can turn on the fans and see when it gets hot :)

I believe the heater matrix is meant to be self-bleeding. I don't know of any bleeding mechanisms anyway.

I'll give that a go after I get cleaned up.

I just washed and waxed the Favorit and it gleams!!!

The spare was filthy and it looked bangerlike yesterdaybut now its cleaned with my felicia wheel trims and its looking good!!! pics to follow.

i always leave the cap off while filling the car up with coolant, and most of the time have the engine runing while i fill it up i have notices i does take a bit more of liquid by doing this (without leaks ofcoruse) and that gives me plenty of peace of mind and also i realy dont need to refill every other week and stuff,

Phew after following anewmans and Kens advice I got the heater working.

Parked the car on a hill facing up, cap off and heater on full. hot air started to fee through and its running nice and warm especialy on the move

Thanks Guys, I just panicked when the hot air wasn't there.

I didnt want an oops I killed another Skoda thread!!!!!

Glad to see you are getting things sorted :)

Well the heater works!!!

But now I stripped the Felicia and Favorit to swap the carpets over........

Had to cut the Felly carpet a little to get it in.

The Felly's front seats prob wont fit though as its prob the way the front mounts are angled!! grrr.

I'm almost tempted to stick the old carpet and seats back in, get the interior valeted professionally then get seat covers on as theres a fag burn in the drivers seat.

There's only two allen key bolts holding the seat runners to the bottom of the seats if I remember correctly so they shouldn't be too difficult to swap if that's the only stumbling block :)

Halfrauds had some carpet cleaner reduced to £1 a bottle (well ninety something pence after the generous VAT reduction) last time I was there.

Ahhh!!!

So I can take the seats off the runners!!!

Then I can prob put the Felly seats on the Favorit runners.

Thanks Anewman!!! I'll try this tomorrow.

As for carpet cleaning, I thought I'd try the "easy" option!!!!

Did the Felicia seats fit OK on your Favorit? I'm thinking of doing the same thing, those Favorit seats are no fun on long trips.

If you've got a bit of cash and don't mind taking the seats to bits, I would recommend one of these:

Lovely in the cold

I've put a set in my car and they work quite well.

That looks a good deal :)

Stuck with the Favorit seats

it makes no difference if the heater is on or not, the coolant will circulate around the matrix regardless, all the temperature slider does is moves a flap which regulates the amount of air going through the duct. it seems you have already sorted it anyway.. for future reference just run the engine without the cap on the expansion tank and massage the hoses by hand, it will self bleed

Most cars have an air blending heater, where the temperature is regulated by diverting the air through or around the matrix. The Favorit has a heater where the temperture is controlled by regulating the amount of coolant going through the matrix via a valve, so it will make a difference as to what the heater control is set to. Ford Fiestas and Kas also have a valve which is operated electronically and are a quite common failure.
