wax or sealant

Featured Replies

do you use wax or sealant? What are the best products? Ive heard sealant is longer lasting but i think it would make my bright silver octavia too reflective. I think i would prefer the glossy look you get with carnauba waxes

any advice appreciated

Moved too Car care area. :)

I always thought the kind of wax that's said in the same breath as 'sealant' is applied to ungalvanised parts of cars, and that sealant was injected into the sills etc.

The impression I got was sealant was often used to protect the finish of freshly polished paint, and wax added on top to improve level of protection and shine etc.

On my silver Octy II I'm currently using the Klasse All on one cleaner/polish/sealant.

I've then added two coats of collinite 476s wax over the top of this and I think this looks very good.

As for too shiny, no not at all, especially not after a long week on the motorways.

I always use a sealant after polishing then a wax on top to give the depth and gloss.

I tend to use Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection as a sealant which is specially formulated to go over SRP then use Collinite as a wax as a LSP.

I use Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 on my silver Roomster....

Gives a great wet look and excellent beading...

I am of the understanding that it depends on the finish you want to achieve(deep gloss shine or highly reflective cold appearing) with your paint, and also if your paint is metallic / pearlescent (SP?), as sealents tend to "pop" the flake out at you that bit more on the latter paints, than does a wax...

although i have been advised that a wax after sealent application... is the dogs danglies haha
