disconnecting the battery

Featured Replies

I hope I don't sound too stupid, here.......

If I disconnect the battery on my Octavia II will it affect any of the cars electronics (apart from the fact that they won't have any power)?......lol

What I am asking is is it still OK in these days of very complicated car electronics to just disconnect the battery, do my work on trhe car and then reconnect it?

thanks

Tom

Absolutely fine.

I have to carry a 10mm spanner around so I can dis connect my battery every time I park my car (No really) it is the only way to stop the car alarm going off.

When you reconnect the battery some of the vehicle warning lights come on, but these will go off after you have driven the vehicle about 50 metres. Also your one touch open close function on the windows will need 'resetting' simply by holding the down button until the window is fully open, again for closed. Your one touch function should then work!

Happy days:D

thanks very much, i was just a little concerned. I am going to fit one of those aftermarket custom fit sat nav things but the car is so new to me that I am still a little nervous of doing stuff to it. I am sure you know what I mean.lol

thx again

Tom

When I wired the hands free kit into my Octy II I disconected the battery, but if I was just changing the HU I would probably just remove the relevent fuses. After reconnecting the battery and starting the car the red power steering warning light on the dash stayed on, but as neebsta said it goes out after a short distance.
