Hall Sensor

Featured Replies

I have a 2000 W Skoda felicia on checking the location of my hall sensor it would appear that the sensor as been removed but the car still runs fine does this mean that the car as been re mapped ? Thanks for your help. Ian

Which engine is it?

Sorry i forgot that bit its the 1.6 AEE engine.

So your looking in the distributor and its been removed?

no i was looking on the top of the gearbox, there is an hole where i thought the sensor should be located.

In deed the hall sensor is supposed to sit in top of the gearbox.

Only on the 1.3, on the 1.6 it's on the distributor

Is it possible ashmar1310 has had a wrong gearbox replacement fitted?

It could be just the hole for viewing the flywheel makes when timing up.

Either way its not supposed to be there (its in the distributor) and it wouldnt run without one remap or not.

Thanks, I didn't know that... I don't know anything about the VW crap  just about the Skoda Aluminium engine...

Possibly he has the wrong gearbox... He should try another 1.6 car... The gearbox of the 1.3 50 kW has a shorter transmission ratio than the 1.6.

Isnt the gearbox the same anyhow just with an adapter plate on it for the VW engine? So both have the hole anyhow.

I guess. I know sb. from here who has equipped his favorit with the 1.6 engine using the 1.3 gearbox.

it's not a timing inspection hole on those ross, the 1.6 felicia has no tdc marks on the flywheel... ALL of the felicia gearboxes share the same transmission casing, so the hole is there wether it's used or not, and i can confirm that the 1.6 petrol does not have (or need) a sensor on the gearbox, there should be a little plastic bung in there

bear in mind there is also two different types of distributor as well, and the rotor arm and cap must be used as a matching set with the corresponding dizzy..

the hall effect switch, it hides be hind a little black pastic cover...

and just for reference, wether it's a 1.3 (sensor on top of gearbox) or a 1.6 (inside dizzy) the engine will NOT run with it missing or unplugged

the gearbox from a 1.3 will interchange with the 1.6 but you need the adaptor plate too, but you are right in saying that there are different final drive ratios available... either 3.83:1 or 4.11:1 for petrol engines and the diesel has 3.5:1, it's worth noting that not all the 1.3 boxes have the 4.11:1 final drive
