modifying tdi downpipe

Ive just picked my octy 1.9 tdi up from mot (which she passed with flying colours-)and whilst talking to the tester, he suggested that i could remove the cat , and weld in a length of stainless tubing where the cat was , and that would give me a little more oomph .I have a pipercross filter and tuning box fitted and even though its only a 90 bhp model , it pulls pretty well.Can anyone tell me if this mod would be worth it ? thanks in advance.
