Warranty - Something to check on Superb 1

Featured Replies

For those with Superb 1's that are nearing the end of the warranty check the state of the rubber gaiters on the drive shaft. Our car is 2.5 yeras old but unfortunately at 73000 miles its out of warranty. It was serviced a couple of days ago & we have been told the gaiters are perished & likely to fail shortly. If yours is nearing the end of the warranty get them checked, I cant believe the material used by Skoda is such a low quality to perish in 30 months !

:+1:

They're pants :)

They are a well known weak link on the Passat/Superb. I had a pair on mine while I had it. Failure rates as low as 30k miles apparently!

Also well worth replacing them when they start to perish, as if they fail you could result in a much more expensive repair.

Slightly OT - anyone recommend a good hard wearing brand to help "counteract" the problem? Last one I changed was OE for OE... er, whoops!

Got a fiat on order ;)

I spray the outside of the boots with silicone lubricant at each service. It only takes seconds to do and helps to keep the rubber soft.

These boots are real rubbish - I can't suggest an alternative but it's just as well VAG don't make condoms.

rotodiesel.

Seriously though, good idea about the silicone. I'll try it out, thanks Roto.

What's involved in changing these? Mine haven't actually gone (yet) but I'm keeping a close eye on them. I'm tempted to change them as a preventative measure rather than risk driving with them damaged. I did change one on my Capri many moons ago but can't really remember how long it took.

Usual methods only the pinch bolt will be siezed by now if they haven't been done in the last 3 yrs, and if so you're better off letting a garage do them.

My method normally involves MasterCard.
