Dim Factory Xenon Headlights Octavia L&K 2001

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Have noticed that my factory standard xenon headlamps are getting rather dim compared to newer VAG xenons . The car is now almost 8 years old with 65K on the clock & I guess the bulbs have never been changed. May be looking at changing the bulbs at some point over the Christmas break with many thanks to advice on how to access the bulbs from this forum however was wondering a few things 1. Will it be worth changing the bulbs as what is the life on Xenon bulbs is this normal? 2. If replacements are needed then are 4300K bulbs factory standard? What bulbs would be good replacements as Skoda dealer ones are probably at rip off prices?

Any advice & Knowledge on the subject of Factory Standard Xenon bulbs would be greatly appreciated. Nick:thumbup:

I am just going through the mod of completely changing the standard Halogen Lights on our VRS to Xenon HID, and what a job it is turning out to be, but hopfully have it all done and working in the next few weeks, as one part is on back order .

But I have chosen 6000K bulbs - as this is what I have aways used in all the HID conversions I have done in the past - 3 in total  as I find the light is the brightest, as if you go too blue/purple you actually lose the light output, and too low a number goes back to the yellow look.

As for replacement bulbs - D2S HID bulbs can be picked up for around £30.00 a pair ;) Not sure how long they last, as I only ever seem to have a car for around 15-20K miles, so never noticed any loss in light in the bulbs......
