Additional Speakers!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, and merry christmas in advance:-)

I'm the happy owner of a Skoda Octavia - 08 1.6 mpi. It's quite basic in terms of equipment, the only thing that we added to the "base package" was a cruise control, since we were quite happy with the features already included.

When we decided to buy the car, we forgot one important thing though: The audio system (which was quite unexpected since I consider my self an audiophile). So, we only have the Stream mp3 system, with only 2 SPEAKERS (*sigh*!). I'm very happy with the sound an features (the mp3 player is really good), but i'd like to add rear speakers. So my questions are:

1. Is it easy to add them? I saw that there were room for them in the rear doors.

2. Is the cabling done, or do I have to do it myself?

3. What speakers do you recommend that fits well with the front speakers? Original Skoda(?) speakers or others?

Regards,

Jimmy

Anyone, please?

Are you absolutely sure about that? The car should come with 8 speakers as standard with Stream audio. 2 speakers in every door.

I don't think they even manufacture a car with 2 speakers.

Looking in a UK catalogue from the summer the 'classic' comes with 4speakers only and the Stream head. I guess he only has them in the bottom of the doors.

On the more upmarket models there's small speakers (brings to 8 in total) forward of the door handles in the plastic, which seem to chuck out a fair bit of sound and tone. Guess those could be added for a few £'ss and some time quit easy! to get the factory look.

Skoda Auto counts the speakers number as following:

- 4 speakers means 2 woofers and 2 tweeters, only in both front doors

- 8 speakers means 4 woofers and 4 tweeters, in all four doors

- 12 speakers means 4 woofers, 4 middles and 4 tweeters, in all four doors

Do not know how is in UK, but here in Bulgaria standard offers are this:

Classic - 4 speakers without audio unit

Ambiente - 4 speakers without audio unit

RS - 8 speakers without audio unit

Elegance - 8 speakers without audio unit

L&K - 8 speakers with Audience MP3 unit

Sound System (12 speakers) and Stream MP3 are extra options.

In it is (was?) all come with Stream according to 2008 catalogue and 4 speakers, from Ambiente up you get 8 speakers (vs 4 in classic) and 6CD autochanger. With Audience radio in L&K. And sat nav a option on all bar classic. No talk of 12 speaker sound system at all!

Hi!

I have 4 speakers actually (didn't think of the tweeters), as chavdarlk mentioned it:

So, I really want to get a pair of speakers in the rear doors, since there's already 'room' for them, and I guess(?) that cables are already mounted. If anyone knows something about it, please give me a hint.

Wont be any cabling there if they werent fitted at factory.

How hard would it be to install the cabling?

Or would it be easier to amp the front and rears, rather than messing about around the dash etc etc?

I've replaced my front speakers with 6.5" Vibe 2 way components, clarity is much better paired with a decent headunit. But there is a lack of audio coming from behind you, which is rather strange with a sub.

it is easy , i do it on many octys...

u need to get out stream , get 4 wires in

when u get out your cd , u should see the diagram wiring and it is easy...then the 4 wire u need to go whit them on rear doors speakers...

Was the 12 speaker upgrade thing only available for a while? I've got a '58 L&K which I assume has 8 speakers aln I would have gone for the 12 speaker jobbie if it had been available but it wasn't. Anyone know where the extra 4 speakers would have been placed and what differences it would have made, ie. more woofers, tweeters, etc? Is it possible to retro fit them at all? Sound system is okay, but would have liked what appeared to be an option at one time.

all speakers is it placed on the doors. 3 on each door
