approaching end of warranty - advice please

Featured Replies

My Ellegence 2.0 TDI is approaching the end of thre 3 year manufacturers warranty, I've had rear parking sensors replaced 3 times under warranty (the first they said was down to me) and I am concerned about what should be specifically checked as known faults before the warranty expires. The CD/sat nav has already been reconfigured after regularly displaying German language and I spent over £150 having the wheel alignment checked as the front tyres were wearing heavily on the outside edges only to find nothing wrong.

If you could help by advising what to look out for it will be a great help.

Also if anyone has any experience of purchasing and using warranty on the Superb after the manufacturers 3 years please let me know.

The mileage is now 41,000 and I am having to watch every penny of spend following redundancy so want to make sure I get everything covered..

Thanks

I have taken out a Skoda Extended warranty on my 3yr old Superb in November this year. The cost was £360 and it included RAC cover or Skoda Assist as they call it. It seeme to cover all the main things as per the normal 3yr warranty. I looked at Warranty Direct (£300 but no RAC cover) and thought I would be better off with Skoda. All too many times both VAG and Skoda seem to take Brand Loyalty into account when assessing problems after initial warranty. The car is serviced and has always been serviced from new at a Main Dealer - so I hope if I do have any problems then my Loyalty will pay. As for problems to look for I'm sure Roto will be along with his recommendations soon, but Front suspension bolts and the usual Plenum chamber and pollen filter issues are very common. Also Rubber Gaiters on Drive Shafts check condition.

Thanks for the advice what was the duration of the extended warranty you purchased in November?

Thanks for the advice what was the duration of the extended warranty you purchased in November?

It was 12 months renewable every 12 months.

I hope I live to enjoy benefits of it - although I really hope I don't need it!!

If you intend keeping it do what J did and get a Skoda warranty, check it though because someone I know whose still in warranty just got told the dpf isn't covered.

I went with the Warranty Direct basic warranty which was about £225. They are open to negotiation I found both on price and cover. If you tell them you want the rear parking sensors covered in the deal, they'll do it. I got the CD/Sat Nav and a couple of other things thrown in. The cover I got is for the franchised dealer labour rate as opposed to their own local agency. Because I waited a few weeks without buying, the price dropped 10% via an email offer at which point I paid. The main thing I wanted covered was motor, flywheel, gearbox, turbo etc and they are covered in the standard Warranty Direct offer. HTH.

Has anyone used Warrantywise? I have already got RAC breakdown cover with my Bank account so thought I might save a few quid going with a private warranty. Just had a quote of £338 including wear and tear coverage on my Superb with 38k on the clock.

I have the tyre issue as well mate, I blame the soft suspension and heavy car itself for it, I had mine checked out and found nothing wrong, but as the worst wear is on the ns tyres on their outer edges and I do have to turn a lot the only possible solution would be to have a mild lowering kit with better springs to compensate the body roll, and even then it might not cure it.

Not overly.

My tyres still wear quick(er than I'd like, certainly) but they don't have the inside edge problem a lot of folk seem to suffer from.

Definitely helps the body roll however without being too harsh on the ride.
