MP3 ignorance!

Featured Replies

I am getting a Fabia vRS (ex-demonstrator) next month, which comes with the 6CD changer and Symphony (IIRC) head unit. Is it possible to swap the changer for an MP3 one (eg Sony CDX T70MX), and play MP3s through the standard h/u? I don't know much about ICE, so I don't know whether changer has a DA converter in it (ie outputs analogue audio), in which case I don't see why MP3s coundn't be output. Also would the h/u have the ability to control MP3s - i would imagine they would be just seen as CDs with many more than usual tracks!

The reason I ask is that while I would be keen to have MP3 playing in my car, I don't really want an aftermarked head unit.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Yeah, MP3 CD changers do exist (I've got one) - not familiar with that Sony one though.

The MP3 is decoded at the changer, and this is sent to the head unit as a CD track...so it's just like having a CD with about 300 songs on it! :)

That's exactly what i was hoping to hear! Many thanks for the speedy reply - Rob

If you've got a Grundig MS502 headunit then there is the Soundlink SKO01SMP which adapts the Sony MP3 changer to the MS502 headunit. This is for 2000 model onwards car. Expect pricing to be around
