Dip beam adjustment

Featured Replies

I've just put some uprated bulbs into the dip headlamps and the beam has "risen" . Is adjustment relatively easy? and how's it done? There seem to be various white and/or black plastic female allen key slots. Which one is dip beam up/down please?

Or is amateur work like this very unwise?

Thanks

Dill

Firstly you have your headlight beam height adjuster on the dash, has that been chenged somehow?

TBH there shouldn't be any difference to the beam height simply by upgrading the lamps unless something has been knocked out of adjustment. I presume you removed the fittings to do the job, silly question but have the fittings gone back in correctly?

Dipped beam adjustment has been covered on here a few times before. Each light has 2 adjusters. I used a socket to do the job, something like 10mm IIRC. One is for left/right and the other for up/down. It is very easy to **** it up and should be done against an MOT approved headlight aiming chart.

Are you sure you put the bulbs in correctly? Did you remove/replace the headlamp units to change the bulbs, or change them in situ?

Thanks everyone for info. I don't think that I've put them back in incorrectly (I took the lamps right out) because the main beam is still perfect.

I recall that, when they tested the uprated bulbs, Auto Express intimated that one might have to adjust the beam.

I think I might revert to the original bulbs. I keep getting flashed!

dstev2000 - I forgot to ask. Isn't the "headlamp beam adjuster" on the dash a rheostat for the dash lights?

I AM A COMPLETE PILL*CK.

Thanks to dstev2000 I've just spent the 15 mins driving home adjusting the dip beam level from the comfort of the driving seat.

Happy now (albeit embarrassed). Thank goodness for this forum.
