No it is not.

The VAG filters are Cordierite extrusions with every other channel blocked at the end. They are oxidiation catalyst impregnated. As the pressure across the filter increases by soot accumulation, the engine fuel management system changes to increase the exhaust temperature to the point, where the soot burns and the combustion by-products can pass through the Cordierite. The combustion by-products are basically water vapour, CO2 and some NOx.
