Huge Amount of Smoke from Exhaust :S

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Seems like my car is giving me no end of problems recently :(

Basically, when I drive off from the lights in 1st gear, there is a huge cloud of smoke left behind me. Once I have reached over 2k rpm and moved into 2nd gear, there is no more smoke released from the exhaust. The only other time there may be some smoke is when I am accelerating gently and the car is under a large amount of load in low revs, such as 4th gear doing 30mph.

Driving the car at higher revs, there is no smoke  No matter how hard I push it.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? The headgasket was replaced recently, the MAF sensor was replaced around two months ago and the MAP was replaced last week.

Has there been a drop in power as well?

No drop in power at all, in fact its running better than ever lol. Just a huge amount of smoke when moving off at the lights :s

Are you sure it is smoke?

What colour is it?

Smoke is a dark grey/ black colour, and there's normally a huge cloud left lingering in the road after I've moved off. A bit embarrasing really :s

sounds like the ECU is fueling the car more due to the colder weather so your left with more soot etc. are you remapped? Also how dirty is your air filter? as if theres not much air getting in then the diesel isnt being burnt off.

The car has a Revo map on it but its been on for two years and not had any problems apart from a blown turbo last year :s The air filter was cleaned today and still same amount of smoke. Am hoping I can get the car booked in for Monday at the dealer :(

Possibly a leaking injector.

Mine smoke's like mad when I floor it in any gear. Mine started to do it when I fitted the de-cat.

mine used to do this as well but got the EGR bypass and now smoke free. maybe something to do with the egr ?

There is no EGR on the car as I got the Allard power pipe. There is no smoke when I floor it either, just at low revs when in 1st.

One more thing, the smoke isn't a dark grey, its a dirty white colour :s Sounds like oil mixing with the water?

Just an update:

Dealer looked at the car and can't find any faults or anything wrong. They think there might be a it of moisture in the intake manifold but I've driven the car for a few hundred miles and it would have dried up by then surely? :s

It could be the MAF giving up a little bit. When it gives up it usually struggles to read airflow at lower speeds, hence the extra fuelling & smoke, and then clears up once the signal gets stronger. Might be worth doing a log of requested boost VS actual.
