Fab vRS Still leaking Diesel - Suggestions ? .

Featured Replies

Since i got the car, the tandem pump had been leaking.

This was eventually replaced before xmas.

But jumped in the car tonight, and greeted with the diesel fumes through the heater vents after a short journey.

Drove home, had tea, and there were the usual drips on the driveway.

Opened up the bonnet, tandem pump bone dry (previous was always wet underneath)

So now i'm stumped.

I've yet to clean it all up since the pump was done, but i took a few pics, as one of the pipes seem to be very wet at the back, but i'm unsure if this is a fuel related pipe as it's quite large.

I've taken a few pics of the area in question. (PD160 removed for better pics)

The rear/underside of the pipe i'm pointing at, is the really wet one.

Any pointers guys and gals ?

I'd say one of the fuel pipes is leaking, probably the lower one that goes onto the tandem pump.

There is one on the bottom left behind the coolant pipe in that pic.

Excuse my non tech ability...

Are you meaning the silver pipe ?

Was the one i'm pointing at coolant then ?

Easy job ? Or more a pain to get to more than anything ?

Genius ! :)

Ross, you're a legend.

I'll take a look at those tomorrow, see if anything is obvious.

I did have a leaky LUK pump, but swapped it for a bosch item. :)

Glad it's holding out for you (apparently)

Cheers Jason, the old pump was definately knackered.

Even though there's obviously a leak elsewhere, it's nowhere near as bad as before the pump was swapped.

you need to steam off all the fuel residue after you have repaired the leak

I know, not had a chance yet, i do have a steam cleaner, so will try get it done at the weekend.

Pretty convinced there's still a leak though, as it's fresh diesel drips each time, and the pump was changed over a week ago.

Yep the reason for this is not only to clear residual mess but to assist in identifying the location of any other leaking areas

Got this all cleaned up yesterday thanks to a load of CD2 engine cleaner and a fair few watering cans of water, so the area is pretty clean now.

Just a case of checking it next time i can in daylight, to see if there's any fresh mess.

If not, i guess it's maybe wise i replace the fuel pipes going to the tandem pump to eliminate them.

The only sure fire way to locate a stubborn leak that won't be located is to use UV dye and a UV lamp which would save a lot messing round as you could just lodcate the source of the leak straigt away.

Something i've never even considered you know.

Thanks a lot.

Is there a dye available, which wouldn't affect the fuel in any way ?

I'll have a little search on google...see what i can find.
