Hmmm

Hi Guys,

I was all set to pick my new car up tomorrow, however there has been a mess up with the finance co (They asked for a copy of my driving licence, and a recent payslip, and have now realised they wanted a proof of address too????) So I now cannot pick my car up as planned. The dealer is going to lend me a car as my old one has already gone, but I'm wondering if I should just bail out altogether and go off in search of another car?

I'm a little bit annoyed because I went and signed the docs yesterday, and the finance co had penned in on the list of docs they wanted off me a proof of address. The sales manager doing the paperwork tried to ring to find out if it was really needed, as they hadn't told me to bring in any, apart from my licence and payslip. He said he would find out and let me know.

I rang tonight, and they tell me that the finance co do need it, and that I can't have my car tomorrow, and I point out I need a car so they offer to lend me one while they sort it out...

But then they tell me they are going to do it through another finance co because of the trouble this one has caused...and all I need to do is sign the new paperwork. They won't release the car until the funds from the finance co have been recieved by the dealer...

So tomorrow I have to get a lift to the dealer, sign an agreement, get a loan car, go home, take some time off work to then go and pick my car up, which now probably won't be till next week as they are closed New Years Day so nothing will happen until Friday at least!

My criteria for my car is as follows:-

Good MPG

5 doors (Hatch preferable)

Max of £7k

Lowish mileage

Decent to drive

Looks good!

Not sure if I am being dense here but isn't the fact that your address is on your driving licence sufficient proof of where you live

Thats what I thought/dealer thought....

Often now proof of address comes down to utility bills, and sometimes even mobile phone bills are considered not sufficient.

I would stick with it. Grin and bear it. Will be worth it in the end and will avoid possibly even more hassle / time wasted on looking for a replacement.

It's to do with the money laundering regs, and eastern europeans taking the p*** and running off into the sunset with the car/goods.

I'd be blaming the dealer, as they should know all this.

Apparently they have dealt with the same broker for years but its the finance co (Santander) that is demanding the extra proof of address. Interestingly, they have proposed me with another finance co and they have accepted and only require a driving licence as a document!!

Just be sure to check the terms. They may not be as favourable, and also watch out for early payback clauses. ;)

Ooooo yes :) Well the payments are £1 more a month than Santander, but the dealer is going to reimburse me that extra dosh lol....I'm happy to go with the original TBH,

Really I just want the car and don't really care for all this waiting around!!!

Santander was your problem, useless bunch of gits.

Got some free floor mats too :) Saved £40!!

Glad to see it's all sorted out now.

Enjoy the car and make sure that you get some pictures up!
