anyone understand VED groupings / emissions ?

Featured Replies

when the dealer goes into the automated system it tells him my car is 168g/km putting it in group E. If you go on the VCA car data website is states the car is 165g/km putting it in group D ?

I am told the manufacturer supplies the data to the DVLA and skoda have supplied 168g - so where does the official government car data site get its data of 165 from. also the new edition brochure says 166 ?

VCAcarfueldata.org.uk - Search Results - Further Information

Its not such a issue -its only £25 per year, but its MY £25 and i just want it to be correct.

Jonathan, I don't know the answer to your question, but be sure to post the answer when you find it out, remember the 1.8 DSG was originally listed as 195, then dropped to 168 and now is 165.

skoda brochure issue one - 180g

skoda brochure issue 2 - 166g

VCAfuel data - 165g

specific car documentation for my VIN number list 168g

i phoned the DVLA and they said each car is unique and is tested by the factory and the figures are supplied to them from skoda. I cant beleive they test EACH car as it leaves the factory . I can believe they have a sample car of each variant that supplies the data. I dont understand where the 165 figue on the official gov site comes from if they are saying my car is higher than this.

now it get really confusing....

the new brochure just released for 2009 says 168g/km ?????????????

From your post I personally am slightly confused/concerned that the DVLA are taking the figures as supplied to them by Skoda. If that's the case why does the VCA exist?

Major white goods have the energy efficiency labels that have to be displayed so the consumer can make an informed choice. However, in the case of cars, this has a bearing on the VE Duty, so there has to be a 'verifiable' source producing the data.

If you read this link VCAcarfueldata.org.uk - Home Page then it confirms that these labels have to be displayed in the UK showrooms. Now on this basis, when a 1.8 DSG actually gets to be displayed in a UK showroom it will have the A-G label and be shown as 165 band D.

So the customer will expect band D VED, but the DVLA, via the dealer, will be issueing a Band E if they take the figures Skoda are supplying.

Surely, Skoda should be supplying the data as officially tested by the VCA - after all, that is why they exist.

I have sent an email to VCA re the above so await their response.

The VCA also states there purpose is to : Identify the vehicle excise duty and/or the relevant Company Car tax percentage bracket, based on their CO2 level.

Now, the above information, and more from the VCA website contradicts what JCB has been told by the DVLA.

Unless someone with more legal knowledge can comment, surely there is an issue here under Trading Standards.

i cant get any joy from anyone. dealer says there is nothing they can do. DVLA are total muppets and just keep replying with the same standard responses. VCA dont answer emails or phones. really dont know what to do.

just read this on the VCA website :

CO2 Information - The CO2 figures shown are representative of the vehicle tested and may vary between specifications (variants/versions) of a given model. As such the figures are indicative only. A definitive figure for a given specification (variant/version) will be available at the point of sale.

Your point about trading standards is a good one. I suspect it depends on where the dealer actually gets the label from that he displays. I think they might get it from the same system that provides the VED group data - ie the same system that tells me my car is 168g. i think the VCA website is a bit of a red herring - the data on there is only indicative and in this case is plainly wrong.

it all points to the VCA being just another pointless agency !

yep - i got a reply from them basically admitting they were wrong !!

Thank you for your email.

I have checked our data with Skoda UK (who supplied it to us in the first place) and they tell me it is incorrect, the CO2 figure should be 168 g/km so I have amended our database accordingly. Apparently the CO2 figure changed in December.

Skoda UK have also confirmed that the CO2 emissions figure for the car with the VIN ??????????? is 168 g/km

I hope this is of use and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

So you are responsible for getting all 1.8 DSG's CO2 rating increased from 165 to 168:rofl:

Have you had your V5 yet, what is the CO2 on there?

V5 says 168

no - i am not responsible !! just setting the records straight. When my dealer went into the DVLA system that issues the type approval sticker which denotes which VED group the car falls into it already said 168. i was puzzled that the goventment agency that supposedly gives the data to the DVLA was saying 165 !
