battery being drained

Featured Replies

Everymorning im haviing to push start my fav i recently had a new sterio fitted and this has all started since then garages wont look at it said as its not a iso connection they cant do anything :( funny thing is the sterio came from my old fav which is sitting waiting a massive engine rebuild it finally went at 200thousend miles :o bit its all connected in the same way and there wasnt any probs in that car any ideas ???

thanks

It sounds like you've got it connected to permanent live, or else it's co-incidence and the problem is the cold having killed the battery.

Have you tried talking to a proper auto electrician rather than a garage mechanic?

Try disconnecting radio for a few days and see if problem goes away .

it is just a stero you added right?

nothing else.

If you have done this too, then thats the problem. (it was my problem)

i havent been able to find an audio place in the area, i beleive it is on permanant 12v it works with the ignition off but always has and did so in the old car. yeah i have added sub/amp but again this was all in my old car with the exact same set up,

the only thing i have discovered was the ground in the new car was dead so i had to run a new cable for it could this be the problem ?

My battey has just died a death on me, it wasn't turning the car over very well before it died.

If it's the same with your battery then I suggest it's needs a new one, especially if it's say over 5 years old. This very cold weather kills old batteries dead, especially when you are just using you car for short journeys like me, it takes a lot out of them.

shadow 2006, have you got a power cap? (capacitor)

That was what was causing my power drain ( car battery died every 2 days) (newish battery)

I unplugged the fuse to the sound system, and the battery lasts longer.

no i havent just the amp battery lasts about a day unless im using the car then its fine im tempted to put a switch on the +12v to kill the sterio when its not inuse lol

just make sure you have the permy live and switched live connected correctly and that they are not both permy live.

Put a kill switch on the amp power cable if you're concerned too.

Make sure the amp is not permenantly powered up as it will flatten the battery in hours, mine will in about 6 hours. If in doubt , just disconnect the battery negative lead on a night time, and reconnect in the morning

The Fav has an ISO connector. my stereo went in without problems.

You need an auto-electrician to check, not a garage.

fi you install an amp, how is the amp switch off and on ???

it could be that the amp in eternally on and the problem is not the radio

that is why car stereos / head units have two blue wires, one solid blue one blue with white stripe, one for the power antenna (only has current with the radio on FM or AM) and one for the accessories or amps that you need to connect to you amp to turn it off
