Abs Light On and Hand Brake Light Flashing & Bleeping only over 15mph though

Featured Replies

Can anyone let me know if the abs warning light is connected to the hand brake lights as i have the following symptom...

I start the engine its ok the min i go over 15mph the abs light comes on and also the hand brake light starts to flash and bleeps 3 times.

Each time you restart the engine its the same untill you reach 15 mph, in other words i can do 10mph around asdas car park all day and nothing happens but the min it gets to 15mph the abs and the hand brake light come on and there are 3 bleeps.

Checked the brake fluid level and this is fine.

Does this sound another expensive fix :(

Thanks guys.

Could just be the handbrake warning switch.

Could just be the handbrake warning switch.

Would this make the ABS light come on aswell? do you know where the handbrake switch is located

Thanks

By the lever I think. My Fabia would light up the warning lamp and beep above a few MPH if the handbrake was on, so if the switch is faulty....

Otherwise maybe an ABS sensor is dirty.

Abs light and handbrake would suggest something is a miss. Dirty or broken ABS sensors would just throw the ABS light on...... 3 Beeps and Hand brake symbol would be something to do with the braking system.

When i had the sysbol and the 3 beeps it turned out to be the master cylinder leaking my fluid and causing the fault. Maybe try check the fluid under pressure (someone pushing brake with engine running) may see fluid drop.

Check all brake pipes for signs of leaks too, Even a sight leak after a while will cause the fault to be read.

Thanks for the pointers, Had the codes read and it apears that the abs sensors are all reading fine and there is no brake fluid leaks.

The faults that came up was Defective Abs Control Moduale, No comunication with the main ecu.

I was told that the abs module is linked to the main cars ecu hence the 2 faults, I was also told that it may be a wiring fault due to "water ingress"

I dont know what to do with it as for a 10 year old car i dont want to spend hundreds on it getting fixed as i understand that abs modules and ecus are not cheap

Is there a short cut maybe take the bulbs out to trade it in

I feel this issue may result me in getting rid if its going to be to expensive to fix as so far i have had quotes of £1,274 to sort it all out (if it needs the module and the ecu)

Forgot to add that the £1,274 to sort it did include Vat ;)

First thing I'd do is see if the ABS is working. Find a safe place and slam on the brakes. At least you know if you've got ABS or not.

Check the Green/White wire from the ABS unit.

It's a common fault with the Bosch units. The ecu is mounted to the abs pump. Disonnect the Multi plug (pull out the slide and pull it out at the same time, it's on a cam type connector) & see if there is any corrosion. If not, it's likely to need a reconditioned unit/repair, which is quite possible, and for around a quarter or a fifth of the price you mentioned, fitted.

I have come across this more in the Passats, but I hear it's a fairly common issue on the older Bosch ABS units.

Thanks for the above, I will check the wire and plug for corrosion, If i got another abs pump could it be any or does it have to be an exact match.

I was told that its unlikley that it will be the ecu more like you said about the abs pump and asociated wires.

I will let you know how i get on.

One more thing though, if it is a corroded wire and i fix the connection, will the lights on the dash go out themselves or will they need to be cleared again using the computer Just wondered about this as the abs does a self check to see if its functioning on each start up of the engine.

Thanks again.

ABS light and faults should clear once the fault has been fixed..... Not sure if the falut code will stay on Ecu tho.

Did you get to the bottom of this?

I've got a similar problem but mine is only with the hand brake light, there are no ABS warning lights. It happens over 60mph though?

Any ideas?
