1 lady owner needs help!!

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new to this and would be most grateful of any advice.

I own a Fabia 1.9 diesel estate 54reg 2004, To start with my front wipers did not work, I sorted this out by replacing the fuse. they now work although, the front washer still is not working but I am putting that down to it being EXTREMLY cold at the moment. My main problem is that since replacing that fuse my air bag light has come on and is staying on. :worried:

I'd say that the contents of your washer bottle is probably frozen. Can't help with the airbag light though, sorry.

Haynes doesn't mention fuses for the airbag .Only mention of airbag isin my 04 1.4 handbook - either fault or if airbags have been switched off .(de activated ) -switch on 1.4 is shown drivers side above radio and rh side inside glove box ).(Not being patronising ,suggesting simple things till techie people get on to this )

Don't mess about with airbag circuits. Have the car scanned for fault codes.

I had the same problem, but no screenwash was going to the rear window. Wasted a full tank of screenwash, trying to get this to work, was fine on the front. Got out the car, and realised there was screenwash everywhere!!!!

Bloody pipe had come loose, took it to local garage to get it re-attached, as couldnt get underneath the car.

I agree with Moggy with regards to the airbag problem, get it scanned.

To echo the above, the lack of washers will be down to the freezing weather. It could turn out once they thaw that one or more pipes has disconnected. All the usual disconnection points are accessible with the car on its wheels (i.e. you won't need to get underneath it!) and are listed in a post I put up a while ago:

As for the airbag light, it often comes on on the Fabia when the power supply is interrupted (disconnecting the battery is a classic cause). You will need to get a garage or someone with VAG-COM to clear the fault, and assuming it doesn't come back, your car is OK.

Hope all this helps! :)

********, cheers mate.

Lucky was a friends garage and didnt charge me anything. Skoda would of charged about £30 for re-connecting the pipe.

Where are you based? There are a few people on here who could scan your car and clear codes for you, myself included.

Thank you all for the help so far. I am in the Basingstoke area

The screen wash has thawed out, so is working fine, i am now getting abit worried as several of you have mentioned getting the car scanned to find out about the air bag problem....this sounds expensive?????

As for the rear washer hose becoming disconnected, I experienced this last year and skoda kindly showed me how to fix it by connecting it back up via under the bonnent.

A garage will charge between GBP40 and GBP60 for a scan, although as Fabby suggests you could take the plunge and see if any forum members near to you have the necessary kit and will do it for beer tokens!

Another possibility if you have AA / RAC cover is to leave your lights on overnight, call them out to jumpstart you, tell them about the warning light, and get them to clear it for you. Not necessarily saying you should do this, but it's a, er, 'theoretical' solution to your problem! ;):D

It sounds more serious than it actually is. As already said above, you can get someone with VAGCOM to scan the car for beer tokens, or buy one of these

Fault Code Reader for Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda (1996-2008) :: Gendan Automotive Products

The above widget lets you scan the ECU yourself and go to a garage armed with the fault code(s), or attempt a DIY repair for the easier jobs (some are very easy.)

Also handy if you break down and need to call out the AA/RAC, you can tell them the fault code, so they might source the right part from another van or dealer before they come to you.

Just be aware that not all handheld scanners will clear airbag faults - mine certainly doesn't! Unless you're planning on getting into home maintenance, I'd recommend the Briskodian-with-VAGCOM or independent garage routes (or the AA route, of course - although I couldn't possibly recommend that option! ;):D )

Use Windscreen wash fluid all year to prevent freezing and limescale blocking yer tubes. It is that simple.

Yes it is simple!! my washer bottle is always full with windscreen wash. but is does not seem to make a differance when the temperature is -5, and the car doesnt get used every day. All thawed out now THANKS

Not entirely true - the nozzles can still freeze if it gets a few degrees below zero - one of the reasons you can get heated ones if you stump up for them! ;)
