Fabia + Wheels + Tyres = Kitten Hat

Featured Replies

Hi All

A mate has offered me some 17" wheels but they have 205/50/17 tyres on

recommended 17" seems to be 40 profile rather than the 45 16's

What kinda issues can i expect running a 50 profile tyres??

Any of you wheel-a-holics out there got any advice?

are they likely to scrub?

will the speedo be miles out?

crashy bouncy ride?

will the Furby look even more like a rollerskate??

I think the current tyres have quite a bit of life in them and given the time of year could so with not re-rubbering!

thanx in advance

I would say yes to all of the above :)

Have a looksie here & fill in the details, It gives you a visual/graphical idea Etc.

1) Yes, quite possibly unless the offset and width of the wheel are perfect. You've actually gone up two sizes. The SEAT equivalent runs 205/40s, though my brother is running 204/45s for comfort reasons. So you could try 205/45s.

2) It'll overread and be enough out that you'll have to take care around speed cameras.

3) Nope, ride should be better as you've got more air under the rim than with a 45 or 40 section.

4) Nope.... Though I think they'll scrub/scuff. The wheels and tyres will fill the wheelarches more completely. Making the car look more composed/natural.

Alledgedly it will be out by 7.8 % (Read Too Slow)

60 Mph will Actually be 64.7 Mph

So As above Extra care should be Taken as your error margin has been lost... So go Around Speed Camera's as Vindaloo Say's :D

thanks for all the advice guys

looks like new rubber is the best option then I did think this would be needed but hoped to avoid it.

might have to haggle him down on price! :o)

if you don't use the search button or ask a popular question apparently a kitten dies so i thought i'd make mine into a hat!

Good Idea on these Cold Winter Days :D

Personally, I would be tempted to try them, Especially if the Rubber is good, If you get a few thousand miles out of them before you need to replace & at least you are aware of the Speedo inaccuracy. The major problem would be if they were to foul, If they don't :thumbup:Bonus

only use either 215/40/17 or 205/40/17 :)

I may be interested in the tyres if they are good quality and going cheap!
