Advice for cleaning EGR valve on 2.0 PD

Featured Replies

Hey all, Ive had my Octy for about a year now and with me having it mapped, Im thinking I might benefit from giving the EGR a clean out, Ive heard this can be very beneficial. Can anyone give a guide on doing this, possibly with pictures? we could make it a sticky!

ime not that familiar with the 2.0 pd but if its out like a 1.9 pd its a easy job. about 8 allen bolts manifold to head and a few nuts on egr. if you can soak in a big enough container of diesel over night . it will be spanking clean next day. they realy benefit from a clean..

Its not like the 1.9 being a cross flow engine.

It sits at the front of the engine in between the throttle body and manifold. My advice would be if it ain't broke dont fix it. But if you wish to play you have to remove the throttle body and then the valve.

1.9 is ok to do but i would go with Lummoxs advice on this.

like i said ime not familiar with the 2.0

Its the same throttle body, just in a different place, 2.0 is common for jamming up, this usually causes and a fault in the engine ecu and blows the cooling fan fuse.

Having only ever done one, I'm not sure I fully agree with Lummox.

A friend's 2.0 PD hit 100k and wanted to give it a 'megaservice'.

Thinking he had a 1.9, I told him cleaning the EGR was easy only to get a call later. I agree, it is a real PITA to do, but in this case I think it was well worth the effort and the car ran better after cleaning (EGR and throttle body).

I guess you would only do it if you have a problem or are doing a 'megaservice'.

Maybe Ross can give us some idea of whether the cross-flow engines are more resistant to EGR fouling and at what mileage he would look at cleaning it as a preventative measure.
