Cost of changing dpf

Featured Replies

Hey,

Does anyone at what mileage the diesel particulate filter needs to be changed and whats the cost of this service?

My Volvo V50 was £1200 at 72k

Also when does the timing belt need replacing and whats the average of doing this?

It's '07 with 55k

Best Regards.

It doesnt need to be changed.

Whats the engine code?

Really, wow.

It's a vrs i'm looking at. Just checking out future servicing costs as it's at 55k. The volvo was a shock to me and needs changing every 72k :(

Anything else i should be aware of, or search for information on here about the vrs before buying.

Much appreciated

I thought that eventually the regenerating process wouldn't clear the DPF of the residual fine soot (the product of the larger particles being burnt off during regeneration) , so the DPF got partially blocked that regeneration couldn't fix, and at that stage the DPF would need to be replaced. This wasn't at any scheduled mileage, but would depend on usage (and hopefully wouldn't be too frequently).

Not sure if that is right but I have worked on 100k DPF cars that will still regen down to 0%.

Mine has just had one (22,000 miles) - being sorted by lease company and warranty???

They quoted £1000 ish (not sure if fitting was extra).

If the car is driven as per Skodas recommendation, and not all town driving then the dpf should last the life of the exhaust system. If the car is used a lot around town the regen process doesnt really get a look in and it will eventually clog up and need replacement. As the OP has already got to 55k and not needed a new one, chances are the car is being driven as per skoda so shouldnt need replacement for quiet a while.

Based upon my lengthy conversations with Skoda on the Superb I was told even if they fail in warranty its classed as a filter & therefore as with all "service items" its not covered by the warranty, the customer normally pays

Our Superb is now on 75000 miles, 2 trips to the dealer when it failed, first time was in the South of France, without a car for a week while it was replaced & Skoda actually paid + a free hire car & paid for our extra nights hotel so looking back I cant really moan. Second time they managed to regenerate it. Personally I will NEVER buy a car again with a DPF until the technology has had more time to sort itself out. Also it makes remapping unwise

On a second hand car I'd just remove the DPF and get it remapped (I believe you have to after removing the DPF).

Probably a lot cheaper too.

Not currently possible due to the complexities of the DPF, Stuart has been trying for some considerable time to get the superb one removed without throwing the car into limp mode, which even mapped is what currently happens.

It will require someone who writes maps & has an in depth knowledge of the car to sort it. Ive had an offer, if I can find an old DPF to rip the inerds out of Im happy to give it ago but I just cant find one. That way the car could be taken to the mappers, swap the exhaust section & let him loose, otherwise its making up a custom section & trailering it around which adds to the cost ! I cant risk ripping the inside out of our DPF in case it dosent work as replacement costs hundreds

What about buying one from a wrecked Octy ?

The system on the Superb is completely unique to the car. VAG as far as I can discover only used it on a few European passats but no othe UK cars. Superb drivers must be good drivers as I cant find a totalled 140 anywhere
