ASR traction light... came on today

Featured Replies

and stayed on, (on way to work at 7:30am when still cold out) after about 20 minutes driving, i've only had this 53 vRS for just under three months, and this is the second time its done this... without me touching the ASR button on the dash..

Anything i should be concerned about? If i stop, turn ignition off, restart engine, the light is out. The light is never on when i start the car, and goes out as should with key in 2nd position of ignition.

just a quirk or something to be concerned about

thanks all :)

Could be a problem with the sensor at the wheel.

Its worth getting it plugged in just to see exactly what code it is throwing up. Has it come back on since?

Try changing the MAF over or check the wiring.

Dead MAF (not to be confused with dirty maf) = traction light on and no traction control.

Its only ever done it twice in just under 3 months of ownership, and only ever after say 20 mins or so driving. The last time before this morning was probably a few weeks ago now, its only because its done it again this morning, that i have started to get concerned (it being only the 2nd time n all).

am sure this evening going home from work it probably wont re-appear. hmmm

Mines had exactly the same symptoms, twice in the last 6 months the ASR light came on 20 minutes into my drive to work. The first time it happened I took it to Skoda and they couldn't find any fault codes so suggested it was just a dirty sensor. When it happened again I couldn't be bothered to take it back and get them to have another look  It hasn't happened again since the autumn.

My one comes on and stays on if I am ragging it a bit, came on on the rolling road day but reset when I turned the ignition off & on.

gonna be changing DV & MAF soon.

Am gunna get mine on VAG-COM, whether thats through a friendly forum member (be over moon if any offers :) ) or have to pay my $ to JBS or somewhere else to investigate, also got an issue with central locking too atm (leave that for another thread) which i've been delving the archives on here about... so that would be useful if any fault codes for that too sigh

cheers guys, am glad its not just me having this fault then... although obviously i wish none of us did ;)

I checked mine and it doesn't actually store a fault code.

I had this problem - ASR light popped up every so often, but the traction control still kicked in. Is yours still functioning but light comes on anyway? I took it in to Skoda and they couldn't find fault, nothing stored in the ECU's fault memory, but it disappeared after I cleaned my throttle body out. It seems problems in the intake system can cause the ASR light - as delcac says, also dodgy MAF causes the prob. Just mentioning it as cleaning out the TB is cheap and easy, so perhaps worth giving it a go? HTH

One day on the way home from work I disconnected the MAF to see if that was causing my lack of boost problems. The car was fine, sort of, (it wasn't the MAF that was the problem anyway) but the ASR light was on. After I'd parked, reconnected the MAF and done the shopping, I started the car to find the revs going mental and the ASR light still on. The revs calmed down after 20 minutes (it was the ECU getting used to having the MAF back on) and the ASR went out the next day when I reset the fault code, but the code was just to tell me I had no MAF. To cut a long story short, have a look at the MAF

Just as i thought it aint done it since... hmmm am still going to be getting it checked out on VAG-COm me thinks, as i havent at all yet, and would like to know whats happening with the central locking anyhow.

Will post back here, if a fault is found with either MAF, DV or anything else that could be causing the ASR light on situation.

A BIG thanks to all the pointers to consider... as usual this place is a godsend ;)

It happened again this morning, just before getting into work... will have to get it checked out me thinks

gunna have the DV uprated (007P) in next couple of weeks... and then onto the other possible culprits

bertee has changes his maf and diverter valve now and its all okay:thumbup:

  • 2 weeks later...

mine came on today , first time its happened turned it off left it 30 mins still on god i wish i had vag-com lol :(

If it is anything like mine there is no fault code stored (EML light does not come on & I checked).

As stated by Delcac... I replaced my MAF & DV and the problem has gone

  • 1 year later...

Ok so this happened to me tonight, been fine since ive had the car, gave the car a bit of beans coming off the roundabout and its now on permanately, im guessing we are talking about the triangle woth the circle and arrow around it?

Ive already got a forge dv, so hopefully its not that? Obviously a little worried as they forecast snow !!!! Just what i need.

Changed the MAF at a cost of £75 !!!

Before fitting i removed the negative battery terminal fitted the new one, switched on the ignition and bingo no warning lights !! Hopefully all good now !!

unpluggin the battery will reset any lights for a while. if the faults still there it'll come back on.

hopefully it won't and your problem is sorted

When I tried disconnecting the battery 1st time round with no new maf it came straight on!

Plus had it plugged in yesterday morning and it was reading faulty, although didn't fill me with confidence as he said he didn't think replacing it would work!!

try and get vag-com on it to reset the fault or i've just got one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110618863146 it reads faults gives you the code and lets you clear any lights you have

Sorry not sure I wrote that properly.

My lights have gone out!

Didn't 1st time round with no new maf, 2nd time round with new maf all codes gone!
