Felicia Fuel Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Well i have now got my diesel Felly MOTed, taxed and on the road now. I was wondering, seeing as i don't have the hand book, at what level the fuel warning light comes on at as we never have that much money and it may be on a few times until I fillup again. Any help will be very appreciated.

Many thanks

Ian

get a jerry can fill it put it in boot and forget a bout it then drive round as soon as you see the light come on press the odometer then when your car runs out of juice put the contence of jerry can in car drive to filling station put a tenner in see if light goes off rufly you can judge how many miles you get on reserve give or take 5ltrs or fill it up and then calculate how many mpg

hope this helps you

Dont know how a older diesel engine would react to having to bleed the system out, if it would do it its self. Or wether it would have to be done manually, like the older diesel engines.

But i wouldn't recommend running it till empty, the amount of cack in the tank that could get picked up and drug into the fuel filter.

I would presume at a guess you may have just under a gallon and a half left in the tank (7ltrs)?

Going to wait for someone to come along and correct me now.

comes on with 6 liters

What he said!!!!

I find that theres prob 2 gallons in the tank when the light comes on.

That means nothing to me hehehe, its not something i've really taken alot of notice of tbh.

The Skoda is the first TDI i've owned, although i've driven many diesel vehicles prior the best in terms of economy being a 1.5DCI Renault Kangoo Van.

Wouldn't go to the hassle of having to prime it all, just for the sake of working out how much is left in the reserves. If your short on cash, stick in say £10 when it gets low...i know its not going to give you alot of fuel.

It saved me a few times in the astra coupe turbo, the trip computer was showing 0 miles on the range. It had been like that for 5-10 miles looking for a pump.

Rolling upto a fuel pump with it coughing and spluttering is rather scary when your out in the middle of unformiliar territory, even if it isn't far from home.

I've never done it since, just isn't worth the hassle hahaha.

in fact it comes a bit earlier but then it turns on and off but with less than 6 it stays on permanently

I read about the cack in the tank thing.

If you have a metal tank then you need to be cautious as if its corroding/flaking from the inside then those fragments will get sucked up the fuel lines. Plastic tanks you should be fine.

Whil on the subject of fuel gauge.

Does the light flash first when the fuel is getting low or is that just it coming on and off with the fuel sloshing about but it does do it pretty rythmically for it to be the fuel sloshing around.

Further to Chris and Brownie on the subject of primer pumps (Diesels only). If you look around the top of the engine bay, somewhere you'll find the fuel line coming up from under the car and making round the side of the bay to the main fuel pump/distributor unit. On this fuel line you'll find a box with a black button on it, or a bulb in the line. That's the primer pump. Press or squeeze it til it goes hard, then try to start the engine, if possible whilst still squeezing it.

They'll start by cranking over on the starter after running out of diesel (I write from experience), they'll also give a slight cough about 1/4 mile before they run out. Obviously the battery and starter motor need to be up to the job, but with the extra strain put on these it may well be a false economy to run the fuel so close to empty.

The tanks are plastic and there is a filter, so there is a minimal risk of drawing up any debris.

No, the light comes on permanently and as you say only flashes with the fuel sloshing about.

It tells you this on page 42 of the owners handbook if you have one.
