Cambelt & Waterpump Change + Service taking longer than a day?

Featured Replies

I dropped the car off at my local dealer this morning for a cambelt & waterpump change and service as soon as they had opened, and when I went to pick it up they gave me a courtesy car instead, and said they would call me when it is done, presumeably tomorrow.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Depends on what time it got into the workshop, if it didnt manage to get in for some reason they might have not had enough time to finish it.

However it should only be about 5 hrs max.

Seems odd that they couldn't do it all in one day considering I requested the service about 3 weeks ago, I hope I don't have to pay for this courtesy car.

Did you not ask when you picked the courtesy car up?

Yep, they just said they would call me when it is ready. Though when I dropped the car off they said it would be done that day, and before then they said it should all be done in a day.

 How much did they quote you prior to the work being carried out?!

So much for research before hand, crikes could have done it for half that.

I am to also interested in what you were quoted first.

that seems steep. Picked mine up today from the indy garage I trust. they charged me £332 (£88 for the belt/pulleys, £200 labour (so I reckon about 4 hrs) and the rest VAT)

The main Skoda dealer quoted me £250 all in (chose my usual garage over this as have been going with various cars for the last 10 years and have heard mixed things about the local Skoda dealer)

Dropped the car off and was told it would be about £530 and be done that day. Thought that was about right so agreed to it. They are my nearest Skoda dealer, and walking distance from where I work, so had little reason to go elsewhere.

Just bought the car, its 3 years old, and has nearly 120,000 miles on it. Heres what I had asked to be done:

- Service (Variable)

- Brake Fluid Change

- Cambelt and waterpump

- Fit rubber floor mats

- Replace bonnet release handle

Utterly ****ing skint, and feel conned.

If they quote you a price for a set ammount of work they are bound to that price. They cannot alter it or add things without your permission.

Ah, so not a simple service and in fairness if you were trying to save money you could have saved the labour on having mats fitted surely?

How does the bill break down. Brake fluid change alone is over £100 surely with labour and fluid isnt it?

It was verbal, and I can't really hold them to what was a ballpark figure.

We dont get paid for fitting matts. Its included in the price of buying them.

They fitted the mats in with the service, apparently worked on it for 8.5 hours, but charged me 5.3, at £75 an hour.

Rough breakdown ex vat:

Brakefluid: £41.00 (labour) £2.48 (fluid)

Service: £87.10 (labour) £76.37 (parts)

Cambelt: £192.64 (labour) £88.83 (parts)

Waterpump: £37.50 (labour) £51.36 (parts)

Bonnet handle: £37.50 (labour) £5.15 (parts)

Mats: £0 (labour) £21.45 (parts)
