VRS - Is my clutch done?

Featured Replies

Accelerating not particularly hard in 2nd gear last night, the revs suddenly shot up while the car slowed down. After about 1-2 sec there were 3 extremely loud and forceful bangs from underneath the car before progress resumed as normal. I tried the "accelerating in 6th" test which was fine and there were no problems over the next 60 miles.

It didn't feel like wheelspin and the ASR light did not activate. The bangs shunted the car forwards.

My furby is a standard 06, done 36k. I try to look after the clutch / flywheel by not booting it at low revs.

What's happening?

Does sound like transmission problems but cant say for sure mate. It could be just the ASR activated but the warning light didn't come on for what ever reason.

Best be safe than sorry though mate I'd get it checked out and insist that your nearest dealer check it out and if still not happy ring Skoda UK up.

Sounds like either wheelspin for a short duration, or dual mass flywheel/clutch problem.

If DMF has broken, you should hear a thumping/banging in neutral with the clutch in.

FWIW I have had wheelspin without the traction control kicking in, and no TC light either.

The banging you heard may be due to a soft engine or gearbox mounting. If you get wheelspin then sudden grip with a knackered engine/gearbox mount, the whole power unit can lunge about.

Seeing as it happened to me today also, i would say it was just wheelspin, with a little bit of wheel bounce.

I was a bit too over enthusistic when pulling out at a roundabout and it happened.

Nothing to worry about. :)
