Annoying Rattle/Knocking

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, bit of a nube to all this.

Can anyone help?

I have a very annoying rattle from my Skoda, Octavia 2.0l SLX Estate, it's coming from under the passengers glove box. Pulled down the cover to reveal a black sealed unit to the left of the car, when car is running i can feel something knocking inside this unit - drives me mental - even the stereo cant drown it out!!!

Does anyone know what this unit is? and does this sound expensive???

Many thnaks people.

Regards,

Julian.

Does the noise stop if you turn the heater fan all the way off?

I guess what you are talking about is the heater assembly. Try changing the heater settings. Does the noise stop on any combination of settings?

Might be the V71 recirc flap motor.

I had to replace mine due to the random rattling/scratching noises driving me mad!

If you press the recirc button a few times it used to go away for a few days.

If you can do a scan for error codes it should pop up.

Mine used to make a noise even when the fan motor was turned off, so it sounds similar.

Does the noise occur when you switch the ignition on? Before starting the engine.

The motor I'm talking about is to the upper left of the fan housing, tucked down the side to the rear of the dash. With the glovebox out and using a torch, I could see it irratically moving and making it's weird noise!

Yes the noise does occur when the ignition is turned on, without the car running - it's driving me mental. Costly to fix?

I paid £64.39+vat for a new motor from Skoda.

Replacement took me a few hours, as it's a right pig to get too. Prepare to lose some skin!

Removing the old one is fairly easy, but slipping the new unit in can be awkward. I found that removing the blower motor gave me access to the flap itself, so I could hold the flap with one hand, and the motor with the other to line the two up. It's not a hard job, it's just annoying if you know what I mean!

If you get a garage to do it, make sure they fix the price for labour first, as they could drag it out! Shouldn't take a pro more than an hour or two.

Dropped the motor out like bodge. I thought I was never going to get it to line up until someone told me to connect the flap motor and change its position to something more convenient. Much easier then.

If I had known to do this at the start, I'm sure I could have done it in less than an hour (actually took me two hours).
