V-reg Felicia - wet weather running problems

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon

Having just lost the text of my original post - I'll try again. I own a V-Reg Felicia 1.3 which up until now has behaved superbly (50mpg on my daily work run of 50 miles)

Late last year I began to have problems when having just started up (revs hunting between 750 rpm (normal) and around 450 rpm and loss of power). This was worse in wet weather , when the car started juddering andlosing power if I went through normal standing water, principally on the near side, although it cleared after a minute or so. The local former Skoda dealers took it in but couldnt find anything wrong. When I found the windscreen was leaking I wondered if the water had got in the fuse box but got that dried out - no difference. SO I took it to the main Skoda dealers in Gt Yarmouth, who put it on the diagnostics.......and couldn't find anything. (they did reckon that the only sure way was to wait for it to break-down properly!)

THIS MORNING....with the weather being like a monsoon, I had real problems - juddering & loss of power (like being in 5th gear at 20 mph!) revs all over the place, and believe me that is NOT funny whe pulling out onto the A-12 ! Finally got better after about 10 miles. Coming home with the weather good - it was running fine, but when (to test) I went through a few puddles....some shuddering for a few seconds. I have seen similar problems mentioned - like sensors and Lambda sensors, but I am no mechanic....and surely the dealers diagnostics would have shown something? Short of spraying everything with WD-40..has anyone any ideas?

i had this problem in my favorit, it stopped when i changed the rotor arm and wd40'd everything electrical. i uplugged leads from everywhere and sprayed it up and never had a problem since

The MPI doesn't have a distributor - which would then point towards the coil pack. Are the electrics getting wet around there prehaps? I would have though that with the coil pack it should be more reliable in the wet as the leads don't go that far (only between the coil pack and the spark plugs themselves).

its a common fault as far as i know with these, a friends got a v reg, nice looking full service history low mileage, but his is exactly the same he sprayed wd40 around everything, havn't seen him since to see if it worked

i had the same problem on my felly, i cleaned all the earth points, unplugged everything and cleaned it with contact cleaner then i sprayed WD-40 on the fuse box and the ignition

never bothered me since and i went through some deep puddles

I'm wondering about water in the coilpack(s), leads (if applicable) or on the plug insulators. All the symptoms match, particularly the engine clearing when it gets hot.
