Tow Bar

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a tow bar fitted to their Octy2 VRS. If so have you got any pictures and what seems to be the best sort? I want one that's detachable so is hidden when not in use with hidden electrics. Is it best going for the Skoda one or getting an aftremarket one?

Any help much appreciated folks.

Don't get me started on towbars! I've had a real problem with my factory-fitted one seizing up.

I had a message posted some time ago, and several members were kind enough to offer advice (can't say the same for Skoda Customer Care). It seems the factory-fitted detachable bars seize up either because they've been left off for some time or left on.

A Skoda dealer will probably not fit the towbar themself but send the car to an independent fitter - if this is the case with your dealer then you might as well go straight to the independent. The last one I spoke to didn't think much to detachables and thought the fixed bars were less problematic.

I have a permanaent one on my VRS estate - it is quite low as it loops under the bumper - grounds on some speed bumps etc and when loaded.

Alwyas prefer permanent ones - easier to add bike racks etc and causes damage to other cars when they get too close!

I have a fixed swan neck bracket on mine ... we use the caravan a lot so a removable bar would be a pain.

Ours sits quite low too, but not a great problem.

The two local dealers didn't have a clue about a bar and cou;dn't answer my questions. The local independent knew straight away about vag com, parking sensors etc so he fitted it.

Went for a fixed and it sure keeps people off your back in traffic!

How does the warranty stand using an independant tow bar installer?

Ian

Shouldn't be a problem ... used to be an issue years back.

My dealer arranged for mine to be fitted by a local independant fitter before collection.

New EU regualtions about fair competative trading or something along those lines means that if and approved towbar is fitted by and approved installer then a garage cannot refuse to do warranty work due to it.

I think I would trust a company that fits towbars for a living. They would do a much better job than a garage that isn't as experienced. Plus my local Skoda garage are not very friendly or very helpful. Can't wait to go in and complain about the condensation on the insde of the windows.

Ive got a detachable on mine. Small bumper cut but when its removed you cant see anything at all.

Ill get some pics and model number tomorrow.
