ALPINE CDE8091R and a flat battery

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone has had this problem, and if they have, could they offer advice. I had the above CD player installed by Halfords about a year ago, and since, I have had too much current being drained from the battery, resulting in a dead battery, and a half dozen or so jump starts.

Halfords are perplexed by the problem. Skoda confirm that the stereo appears to be draining current from the battery when the ignition is off. The stereo also luminates always, so I have to remove the fascia.

My current drain with the stereo in and the ignition turned OFF is about 0.34 amps. With the stereo fuse pulled, it drops to acceptable levels. The Alpine unit is working correctly according to Halfords.

Any ideas?

Pete

From the other thread..

I think this might be a problem for some cars possibly? I had a Alpine unit in my car which was eating current with the ignition turned off. My local Halford's were stumped by the idea, but it was caused by the problem outlined above.

Is this the same problem ?

sadly i thikn its just an inhrent problem with alpine HU, daily use of the car and the problem shouldnt be that bad, how long does it take for the battery to go flat?

Joel

If the unit was connected directly to the oe iso plugs then you may find that the position for the electric aerial output on the alpine(blue wire) is connected to a thick red/white wire which is permanant live and will be back feeding power through the electric aerial output, just cut the wire and it should cure the problem

Takes about 1-2 weeks to drain without use. I tend to go away for work a lot, so is annoying to return to a dead car. Especially when the car is at Stansted Airport. Will give the wire a snip as suggested. Many thanks. Pete

i know this will be not very practial but dissconnect your battery when you get to the airport...do you have an alarm as well that is always engaged when you leave it? (alarm wont work if you dissconnect the batt)...but having it on will also add to the drain

or you coudl dissconnect the HU.. and keep the batt hooked up so alram is on..if it still goes flat id say the root of your problem may be the batt they cycle of going flat and charging up can soon knacker a battery..especially jump starting...ideal way is to bump start a car with a flat batt especially if it happens a lot

Pete,

Alpine recommend that you connect the permanent feed to their HUs direct to the battery (switched still goes through the ISO connector). It's quite an easy job. Is this the case with yours ?

I have a 9811R which I wired in to the Octavia and it caused me no probs whatsoever (the amps however are another story  )

There is no known problem with excessive current draw from Alpine units. I would get an independant car audio dealer to take a look for you. With a 'CDE' Alpine unit there is no need to connect it directly to the battery as its not a 'V Drive' unit. If Pete is local to me (Essex / London) then I will quite happily take a free look at the car.
