Columbus/MFD3 and USB hard drive

Featured Replies

Does anyone know whether it is worth running a say 250/300gb USB hard drive with the Columbus on an MDI lead, or does the unit only recognise a maximum number of folders ? Ebuyer had a 300gb drive recently for £49.99 - damn sight cheaper than an ipod, and much bigger memory.

Also, can the Columbus recognise video files on a hard drive, or can it only play DVD's ?

Just how much music do you have!!!

I've managed to almost fill a 80gb ipod with music and videos, and videos take up a large amount of memory.

Also, it would probably keep the heat down by playing through a USB hard drive, than through the DVD drive on the unit.

Am hopefully going out soon to fit it soon.

By the way, when I disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, I presume I will lose the figures in the trip computer eg overall fuel consumption etc.

What would be the implications of not disconnecting the battery ?

I may be wrong but I don't think you can replay the video on Columbus so that would negate the need for such drastic measures.

What are you fitting? Columbus? You can do it without taking the battery off.

Great - that should make things a bit easier.

Yes - it is a Columbus/MFD3 unit - as you can see from the above, I'm not a technician, but I should just about be able to unplug one unit and plug in the other.

By the way - does the GPS receiver need to be fastened down in any way behind the air vents, or is the magnet strong enough to hold it in place, assuming there is something metal to place it on ?

As your car is quite new then the Aux in etc should be correctly placed. Not sure if yours will have diversity antenna, if not then you'll need to use the inner of the two.

I always use a little bit of double sided sticky on the GPS antenna.
