Rust on rear boot

Featured Replies

Had my VRS for a about a month now and have noticed when giving the car a good clean and polish, some rust.

Looks like it is rusting around the boot plinth which houses the number plate lights. Seems to be a common problem as have seen the same kind of issue on other MK1 octavias.

The rust is at each end of the handle/plinth and looks like the paint has been worn off underneath and subsequently rusted over time.

Is this a common problem with the Octavia hatchback, as I might eventually get this resprayed if the rust gets much worse?

I noticed this on mine when I cleaned it last week  still it's 7 years old now so I suppose rust is bound to rear it's ugly head

I also have some tiny minuscule spots in the exact same place :(

Skoda body work warrenty is 10 years I think, do you think it may be worth bringing up with them if its happening in the same place.

Noticed some on mine but mine is a pensioner now she is just over 10 years old

I think the warranty is only valid for rust appearing due to poor metal work, rather than say the surface of the paint wearing away and inducing rust. I got my 2001 resprayed last year, but a VW approved body shop under Skoda's warranty, but it has started to rust again..... They are all brushing their hands of any warranty now. I think it is crap that work can be done, and even the body shop don't give a toss.

Well I came from a 10 year old Rover 200 that had no rust (but I did look after the car very well) and was suprised to see rust at that spot, but I guess when using the boot handle the handle is pushed against the paint causing it to break the surface. Also water seems to get caught around this area and therefore seems to be poor design.

Mine was fine at the end of the boot handles till I let the VW approved place respray, I just had bubbles of rust appearing along the bottom of the glass edge. Now they are all washing their hands of any responsibility.... :finger:
