Castrol SLX Longlife for Fabia RS?

Featured Replies

Castrol got a new Oil out, the SLX Longlife.

It is recommended for VW 503 00, 506 00 and 506 01.

It seems to be a good Oil and as i only want the best for my furby I was wondering if any of you ever used it.

The Furby manual stipulates 505.01 as the oil required. As far as I am aware, this is currently only available from VAG dealers.

At 11 squid a litre :(

Not sure of the consequences of using any else, not on oil expert!

The 'best' oil recommended for your car's PD engine is one which meets spec VW 505 01. Castrol SLX Longlife II has been available in the UK for a few years now and is for Skodas (and some other VAG models) which are on variable service intervals. Do a search for 'Fabia vRS oil' and you will see a number of threads with info on oils which meet spec VW 505 01. These include a VAG-branded 5w-40 oil Part No: G 052 167 A2; Millers XFE-PD 5W-40; and Quantum PD - also available from VAG dealers. This thread on HonestJohn lists many more 505 01 oils, but the majority are not available in the UK.

The oil you mean is SLX Longtec which is a replacement for SLX oil (TT/S3/RS4 - High power petrol turbos). SLX2 is still known as Longlife.

I could find very little info on Castrol SLX LongTec on the web other than that it is a spec VW 503 01 0W-30 oil for use in the cars Nelson Wilbury mentioned.

Got some of this from dealer, the other day, just to top up,

I agree with Denis' post.

I originally bought some slx longlife oil for the car. Used about a litre in 10k miles before its first service.

However, as the fabia vRS is NOT on variable servicing, arguably, longlife oil isn't the best thing to use because its benefits are for longer servicing intervals which the fabia vRS doesn't use.

When I had my first service, dealer asked me whether I wanted variable or fixed. After much consideration and debate (mostly by some excellent posts on this website  ), 'twas decided that the fabby vRS is better off on fixed 10k servicing intervals, and in that case, 505.01 oil is the best to use.

Also, if you plan to "tweak" the car, I think it's better to use "normal" oil and not longlife.

IMHO :)
