Any Skoda History book available ?

Featured Replies

Is there a good (coffee table type) book available giving the history of Skoda, right back the the start of production / Laurent & Klement days ?

"Skoda" by Dave Randle. I think it may be oldish as my copy only went up to about the year 2000 Fabia / Octavia. Sorry I cannot quote an ISBN number as I haven't seen my copy for a while, it got stored in a house move somewhere.

I came across a couple of books at work, which I duly purchased.

ISBN numbers are:

Part 1 80-901719-2-2

Part 2 80-901719-1-9

They detail the first 100 years upto 1995, so no mention of the Fabia or modern Octavias.

The books I've got in my collection are:

The True Story of Skoda by Dave Randal £14.99 but can be bought for at least half of that. One book dealer at National Classic Car Show , last November, only wanted £5.99! Can be found easily on e-bay.

Skoda: Laurin & Klement by Ivan Margolius & Charles Meisl. Published in 1992 for £25. Think its no longer in print but again I've seen them on e-bay and at specialist motor book dealers.

But the two real coffee table books are:

1. L&K-Skoda. Part 1 The upward path. Covering the years 1895-1945.

2. L&K Skoda Part 2 The Flight of the Winged Arrow. Covering 1945-2003.

These two can be bought from the Skoda Museum in English text or I know our local Skoda dealer in Lincoln, Horton. Skoda , will get both on special order for £39. Try them on the internet at www.theskodashop. Or Rainworth Skoda over at Mansfield can also get them. So I'm sure other retailers can. I got my two off e-bay but they don't appear very often.

Hi, the previous reply details the two books which are THE books. Since then there has also been a coffee-table-style Czech publication called "100 years of advertising for Skoda" by Jan Kralik and Lukas Nachtmann ISBN 80 239 5459 8. I have one and it seems to be put out by or at least supported by Skoda. Less coffee table but you may find an intriguing Skoda yarn, is my own publication THE TREKKA DYNASTY which you can find via trekka.co.nz and copies in the UK via [email protected]

Yes I managed to get hold of copies of L & K Skoda and they are beautiful coffee table books which have technical details on every Skoda built along with many great photos. The translation is a bit dodgy in places but still great books. I'd definately recommend them. Dave Randle's book is good but not a comprehensive.

Concerning the David Randall book, it has my 105 in it (labeled as a 120) and also my Rapid 136 with me sitting behind the wheel trying to look cool! It was a shock whan I saw my own cars in there to be sure!

hi,i was in the museum at mlada boleslav last week, and i bought the book about skoda advertising, which is a brilliant record.some superb poster reprints and photos in there.

also there was a (i think 5) book series detailing the history right up to the roomster etc,all in english.

Arriva do you know (or does anyone) know if col 2 of L & k Skoda: flight of the winged arrow is due to be updated. It was updated from the 1995 vol mentioned in 2003. Is there a new one due featuring Skodas latest cars?

It’s ten years since I last posted on this thread! Anyway, I’m currently sat in the museum cafe, Mlada Boleslav, having just purchased a boxed set of history books, Skoda in three instalments from the start up to 2018. 1101 czk which is about £38... also a nice little read is the path to the favorit book at 300czk or about a tenner. Cheers all!.
