Changing interior map lights

Featured Replies

I have just recieved my new lights (with 2 sets of side lights free). I want to fit the second set of free side lights into the map reading lights in the car. I have had a quick look at the housing and can not see any obvious way to remove it. Does anyone know how it comes off? Is it a case of pulling it firmly or prising an edge? Wanted to ask first before using brute force and probably breaking something!!!!

The cover pops off from the front, use a small screwdriver to free it. It does not take much pressure.

Very easy to do, a small coin is just as effective to remove the clear housing and then it's a case of just swapping the bulbs.

That said, I fail to see why you'd want to swap them as the chances are they will be a different colour to the main bulb

Cheers for the reply. Thought it would be something simple.

Well I got the bulbs free when I order my new headlights (Osram Nightbreakers) and have seen a few people on here have changed them so thought I would give it a go. If I do not like the look of them then can always change them back and I have a spare set of sidelights. It has cost me nothing so worth a go!!

I got the same deal as you PSM, I've tried to work out how to change the sidelight bulbs for the phillips bluevision freebies but can't see how to access the sidelight bulb, done the dipped and main beams, just need to get rid of the w5w's swapped over

Andy, you'll need to take the whole headlight unit out to change the sidelight bulb. I then used an set of long nose pliers to pull the bulb holder out.

Talking of interior lights, I would like to fit the same front unit that has the map reading lights to the rear one or do some of the models come with them

They both look the same size, then get them wired up so I only have to push one button on the front one instead of using the slider for them all to come on

I'll give it a go, just a pain in the butt getting the wiring connector off, tried for a few mins and got nowheere.

I'll give it another go now that mt fingers have warmed up....freezing out there!

use a small flat screwdriver turn the headlight over and you will see where the connector clips in just gently ease the screwdriver under and pull the other part out

all done...thanks for the pointers.

Ended up using a long nose set of medical forceps, and pulled the sidelight connector straight out and had the new bulbs in in seconds.

now all bulbs in the headlamps are looking icey white.....chuffed!

not bothering with the foglamps, never use them.

Need to get the silver indicator bulbs now.

Swap them round and see if they work first
