nasty knocking noise

Featured Replies

im getting a rapid knocking noise from the left front wheel when i turn and excelerate. but not when the wheels turning and im not using the throttle. it seems to be worse when turning left and started at around 52000 miles. is this a serious problem and is it expensive to fix? thanks.

Hi M8,

Sounds like you need to replace CV joint or joints. I had same problem just before Xmas. Quite easily fixed with a good mechanic. To double check this cut the wheels out left and right and get down looking in behind the wheel for a rubber housing if you notice this dosed or cracked it will need replaced

I paid £50 for a joint (non genuine) and £30 to get fitted job done

thanks for the info. is this something that i can ignore until the next service, approx 5000 miles, or does it need sorting now?

It needs sorting now ideally. You can drive it but there's risk of damage to other components. The CV gaitor (rubber covering that keeps the cv joint grease contained hence lubricated) is a pretty well discussed topic on here, take a search of the forum and have a look. They're prone to perishing quite early on in some cases. Turn your wheels full lock and have a look at the back of the alloy, see if grease has pee'd all over it.

It does sound like the CV joint from what you say.

Where did you get the CVJ's from mate?
